So based on what I've seen; true inlaid china clay chips are going for $1+ per chip or more. Is this standard? Is it even possible to get a set of 500 inlay chips for a home game that isn't premium on pricing or am I trying to be a ferrari on a honda budget. I think I fell out of love for the ceramic so looking to go back to the conventional casino quality feel. And I apologize if I sound dumb as this poker chip thing seems to have a huge learning curve.

There is actually no such thing as an inlaid China Clay chip. Since these are mid-range injection-molded plastics, the recess is made as part of the molding process and then the sticker with the art is applied afterward.

A true inlay is applicable only to compression clay chips, since the recess is formed when the inlay is pressed directly into the chip surface at essentially the same time as when the mold is pressed, when the chip body is softer.

New China Clay chips are around the 0.40 per chip price point, and sometimes you can get full sets from members in the Classifieds at a significant discount.

Thank you for the clarity.

Some of the nicest I've played with that aren't 'real' clay are the Claysmith. If you want the real thing, check custom prices at: http://www.classicpokerchips.com/pokerchips/realclay/pricelist.htm

They're pretty much the only company left that will do custom clays. You can find some in the classifieds, eBay, or other vendors for less. Though not customs.

Do some research, get a bunch of samples, decide what you like and fits your budget. For the most part, you get what you pay for.

If it's for a cash game, just buy these, you're probably not going to get a better deal on real Paulson clay than 64 cents each shipped:

They don't get any more "casino feel" than "casino used"!

If you need a frac, I'm sure you can find a rack of something to relabel. You could even probably sell off whatever extras here that you don't need to help fund it.
