I've been searching online and I've been searching this forum for over a month now. And I'm officially at decision paralysis. I have samples of everything from Monte Carlos to Paulsons. And I've decided I want to build a comprehensive custom ceramic cash and tournament sets. However, I cant right now. I don't have enough scratch, but more importantly I need to get the wife on board.

But at the same time I'm getting really tired of my super diamonds, and want to step up. So I'm looking for a stop gap. Something that will satisfy me and tide me over so I can save and work on my ceramic design(s).

So what I've essentially boiled down to is looking at a 600 chip cash set for around $100. That's what I have to work with. I know the general consensus on this forum is, dont buy these chips, but I'm not really primed to spend a lot of money on some chips that really don't get me going (china clays, or non-custom ceramics).

That being said the samples that I like the most are the Discount Poker Shop Monaco Casino chips (not a fan of the Outlaw design but heard the material is good), and the Apache Casino Royales. I love the Royale design, and the feel is great in my samples. But I've heard mixed information on this forum as a whole and the only comprehensive review I have is Hobbyphilic's and he is over all pretty positive on them. In fact the Outlaws and the Casino Royales are both recommended at the same level on his 2021 recommendation video.

So I'm tied, does anyone have table experience with these and can offer some insight? Or have another option that blows these out of the water?

Having tried neither, I think the casino royale chips look better.

Once you buy your custom ceramics later, what will you do with these? And when do you anticipate you’ll pull the trigger on the customs?

Honestly I’ll sit on whatever I get now for a while and use them as beaters I don’t care about and possibly travel games.

honestly at this rate maybe sometime next year. Long enough that I want a new set (I’ve had my super diamonds since I was a kid), But not long enough to pull the trigger on some majestics.

I have the Monacos for my tourney set. I like them. They feel good, stack well, and aren’t too slippery. My players like them too.

Used Milanos.
Unpopular opinion. I really don’t like milanos. I have a sample stack and I just really don’t like them. A 520 chip set was on the classifieds earlier this week and I just couldn’t pull the trigger

You might be able to get some used chipcos in that price range. Raddison Aruba comes to mind as that price point

Search for Raddison Aruba and see who has them and see if they want to part with them. Mine are a $2 limit set, but there are lots of 1s and 5s out there, maybe higher denoms too.

I was in the same situation as you. I decided to spend the extra cash on building a poker table first before getting some nice chips (most players really enjoy a nice table more than anything). In the meantime, I picked up a cash set of the Spartans (same as the outlaws but with a different look) from discount poker shop. They actually feel pretty good and stack nicely. I also plan on going the custom ceramics route next, my players will eventually be paying for them one buyin at a time.

Between Casino Royale and Monaco Casino I would go with whichever graphic design appeals to you the most. All chips handle and feel different, but the differences between these two will be pretty small.

Also, Hobbyphilic's videos are a great resource to get familiar with the wide variety of chips that are out there, but you cannot use them as reviews. You can't use anyone's opinions as reviews. You have to feel them for yourself, because only you can tell what you're going to like. Things that are dealbreakers for 95% of the people on PCF may be no big deal to you at all.

You've got your samples; you're good to go. Just know that you probably can't make a wrong decision here; you'll enjoy whatever you choose to buy.

Don't do it.

Save your $100 (eventually putting it towards your intended target set), and just use the super diamonds until that can happen. It's the smart play.

You are experiencing 'gotta-have-better-chips' syndrome. Resist, and wait until you can afford chips that actually are. Preuse the PCF pr0n sections to hold you over until then.

Ceramic Card mold is only 30c to 40c depending on the order and location, i will rather u save the $100 and just use the $100 as part of the fund for the custom design ceramic that you are WIP at the moment.

No reason to waste a $100 on chip for only a short term basics

agreed start a group buy or convince someone else to and you can get card mold ceramics for around .28/chip shipped

Yes.

I bought the casino royales. My 2¢ and $5 chips were very slippery, but the $1's stacked like bricks. I eventually sold them and bought 30¢ chips, then sold those and bought 60¢ chips, and so on.

If I had to choose between the two, I go with Monaco casino, due to the slipperyness of casino royale.

This....
I am on the same mode the first time I joined the forum. I end up giving away my budget chips after handling very nice chips from PCF meetups. I played once on a local casino that uses Bud Jones chips and was not enjoying the game not because of the action but because of the chips sticking together due to the buildup of hooker juice.
