If these price
Hi Ben
Same goes for Proteges (supply & demand)...wich I rate a lot higher (no offence) then the MG chips...and these go for about 2-2.5 each.
That is telling me that i'm never ever selling my Protege chips at 2/chip not even 3/chip....because these are way under rated.
Not even thinking about how much the real BCC grail sets will be selling...
If these prices are here to stay...then I don't see many new members building collections like in the old days (free renting)
First off sorry
@Duck for my book in your wanted ad. I think what I have to say has relevance to that which unfolded in your thread. If you like I will take it down sir, I feel like I have a valid point to make but I will loose about 3/4s of the readers about 2 paragraphs in. Lol so happy to remove.
I think there is an important factor being overlooked many times on chip valuations. This hobby is driven by the WOW factor as much as anything else. To QUOTE a friend " he who packs the most crayon colors on to a chip, wins!" People want bring inviting colors and they are willing to pay to get it!
Is this not the same thing as say Arch Yellow starbursts bringing $300 + per rack while people get upset when white. Red, blue and green are sold for $125 a rack? How about BTPs or SB $5s going for $700 - $800 per rack!! If they made BTPs in protege colors do you think they would have drawn the same attention? I think not.
I love the Protege line Thomas, I absolutely agree that they are a far superior chip to a paper inlaid MGV2 iin every way (other than color choice and inlay design). I think comparing them to MG V2 chips is a very similar comparison the
THC vs
RHC. I actually hope to one day own a cash set. But I don't think they have that fire attraction like the super bright and inviting colors of the MGs, also to be frank the inlay is very traditional where as the MG inlay is modern and fun!
The new generation of chippers want that wow factor and are willing to spend ridiculous money to get it. Especially the yellow Cali $5 craze sweeping the hobby right now. The veteran chippers do not have to like it, they can raise their prices to reflect it and be shunned by the others. They hobby is evolving rather people like it or not!
I can guarantee if someone listed a rack of MG V2 $5 chips right now for $350 it would sell in minutes if not seconds. Again I did not say across the denoms. I was very specific with my statement.
In my own defense TCR have come to their senses and raised their prices to what $1.50 average across the denoms for
RHC chips and for the most part people seem to be pretty accepting of that, flipping drove those prices up and if the market shows they are worth more, they should get some of that as well! Chip values have definitely been on the rise and they have every right to keep up with the times with their offering values. But guess what... GPI is still making those chips everyday! There are no more BCCs, what are out there is all there are ever going to be. Is $2 a chip for my favorite chips really out of line given the inflation of everything else within the hobby? I think $2 a chip was a fair price and given the number of people that want dibs if we ever sell, I don't think I did anything wrong paying that to get the set where I wanted it. Even $250 for my last rack of hundos to get the set finished... I would have easily paid $300 but the seller was fair in my opinion, if you want to buy a chunk of a playable set, you are going to pay a premium to do so.
People will pay whatever they feel is resonable for chips. Neither of us (Thomas and I) are selling anytime soon, but if you want to place your valuation higher because of the going rates of another set you have every right to do so... doesn't mean people will pay it.
Nothing but respect for you
@Thomacetti Brie and I enjoy your company on the forum sir and are truly thankful for all you contribute day in and day out! I get that your comment was about the $3.50 valuation but their simply aren't enough $5s to go around exactly the same as the Vineyards, Jacks, now
HSI... casinos order chips in much more even numbers and many here want their cash sets heavyied up on $5s. That means lots of other chippers buying the scraps and then trying to pry those $5s away from those that have the solidified sets. Obviously that means the price goes up, not some huge mystery... it happens with many of these sets we see.
If I add up all those 2 cents, I gues that's my treefiddy!! Lmao
