So along with my inlay design I was also tossing around a hot stamp design. I really like the colours of the Aurora Stars, they contrast great to my eyes (at least how they display on various screens) so this is what I've come up with as a design so far. Feedback on the colours (monochromat here so probably don't have very close colours) and hotstamp design is most welcome

Im a big fan on the AST, so im a big fan of what you are trying to do here.

Some feedback. You are going to have to make your stamp bigger and utilise the space on the chip as some of the wording is too small to be legible.

Also, I would take the opportunity to fix the set. I have never been a fan of the T1K. White and grey spots on a bright Yellow chip feel criminal given all the options of colours available. Do you have a AST sample set or CPC colour sample set to try and match the best you can? Where abouts in Australia are you as I might be able to assist.

I tried everything I could to enlarge the image, the logo is 600 x 600 native and using the template from CPC i filled the entire 7/8 area. When that looked like it does now I upscaled it to 2400 x 2400 it's still the same size so my only thought is it's limited by the design tool app. I'll put the samples into gimp later and make them to real size.

What colours would you suggest for the 1k? I've ordered a set of samples from CPC but who knows when those will show up. No AST samples either just looked at a tonne of pictures and really fell for the design. Matching colours is going to be a hell of a challenge being completely colourblind lol and I'm in NSW, Port Macquarie to be exact.

How about dayglow pink instead of regular pink for the edge spot on the T100? Also, I love the yellow T1000 chip. If you’re truly going for similar colors, I think you nailed it.

When I get the colour samples in I'll compare the actual colours with what I came up with and what you came up with, depnding on which ones "pop" more is what I'll mock up in the second iteration. Until then here's an updated look at the T25 with the stamp enlarged in GIMP

You can zoom in on your image for the inlay/hotstamp, first change the active object to the inlay image, then you will get additional buttons including a zoom.

I will echo that I don't love the spot colors on the yellow chip, and it will be worse on the CPC yellows. I love the spot pattern, it's probably my favorite, and it's a shame it's so expensive from CPC. I really love the T25 and T25k from the AST set, but the t100-t1000 leave something to be desired, and custom chips are the perfect way to make the set your own and come up with something great. If you love them as is, no fault there either, but if you don't have a color sample you will definitely want to get one before ordering, the CPC yellows are not close to Paulson yellows and the tool does a poor job of representing the actual color.

Thank you so much for the zoom button help, that made things a lot clearer. Yes I do have a set of colour samples on the way and won't be revising much in the way of colours until they get here and am very open to making the chips my own. Here's the updated stamp size across all chips.

Edit: If I were to change something I would probably go for a true black for the 100 as I do prefer a really dark 100 chip but I'll see how the charcoal looks in person first.

Id also consider dropping the $ if you are using it for tourneys

I love the AS chips and always toy with the idea of using similar patterns for my next set. Like where you are going with this.
I know very little about hot stamping but I am not sure the text at the bottom 'no cash value' (I think), will be hot stamped clearly?
But really like the set :cool

I can enlarge it and move the casino text up, I wasn't sure how small or large to make most of the text or even if these are going to be the final fonts. The overall design I'm quite happy with though and will just refine through the next few design steps. But definitely will take all feedback onboard.

So this is kinda stream of consciousness on the colors:

T25 - the green has some blue in it, none of the CPC greens do. You won't be able to match colors, but you can still do a green, don't be afraid to lean more saturated in color, the green or even the retro green. More on the yellow below.

T100 - I'd stick with the charcoal. The black is black and that 'dark' of a color doesn't fit with the rest of the set to me. Dayglo Pink and Grey I guess are really the only options here. Maybe red, but I think it'd be tough.

T500 - Lavender or Retro Lavender. I'd stay away from the purple as the base as it wouldn't let you use the correct spots. Blurple and Light Blue for sure.

T1000 - Oof, okay, yellow is a problem. There are a lot of threads about CPC and yellow. Don't use dayglo yellow for this, it's all wrong. Canary is I think the only option but it's a muddy color. Yellow is totally wrong for the chip and the rest of the set. I almost think this holes the entire project under the waterline.

T5000 - Tiger or Peach. I think tiger is closer, but obviously not the same, too much red. That being said, I think peach would be the better choice here. And for the green spot... finally a use for dayglo saturn, hurrah!

T25k - Easy peasy and a nice looking chip.

Thank you so much! Colour breakdowns like this help me out so much more than just saying what colours to switch out!

I'm actually a big fan of AS T500. The AS1000 I could take or leave, like it seems really kinda boring compared to the rest of the chips however I feel the set really lacks something if it doesn't have a yellow chip in it.

The AS HS colors come up as discussion topic relatively frequently and you can find some older threads about where people discuss how the colors were landed on and where the colors for the AS T1000 and AS T5000 came from.

Something interesting to me is that AS HS is almost always a super popular set for new members. I know it was where I originally went, and I see pretty regularly wanted posts where people have a recent join date. I don't think there is anything wrong with this, just curious where that instinctive draw comes from.

For me personally it came from how bright those colours seem (I mean I wouldn't know really but that's how they seem), they look fun and inviting. Add to that the allure of being Paulsons and hot stamps aren't that common either. And they do make hot stamps look good.

I just had to chime in to agree. I'm new to all this and was immediately smitten with the AS hot stamps, still am. There is an elegant simplicity in the whole set. Seemingly (to me, newb) standard denomination colours and the consistent edge spots serve more accents rather than a focal point. Kind of epitomises "what a tourney set should look like"
Now the 2nd reason for my comment: what's the origin story for these? I don't want to derail but is there another thread that tells the story?

I think they are one of the few accessible, though not easily, hot stamped THC sets baring like the random RUS or other initials solids that are so popular at times. As people go through their journey when the THC + HS overlaps and perhaps before they get into the phase that I think almost everyone does of 'I want a solids THC tournament set' I think AS HS is a stepping stone.

For the second part, I'm not gonna answer that here. Just search in the forums for NAGB or boat chips and you'll find all the answers you seek.

Small update, I remade the hotstamp design slightly changed fonts, removed the dollar sign and increased the font size of the no cash value. Thoughts? Also messed around with the colours suggested by @JustDave

I think lavender is a better match for the base AS T500 than retro lav (although I like the retro lav in this lineup). I'd also use lavender for the T5000 spot.

It'll mostly depend how they look in person, I'm happy to deviate from a (as close as possible) copy if it means I can either 1) distinguish the various chips or 2) make them look better while being faithful to the originals. If retro lav turns out nicer in person I'm happy to use it over lav even if lav is the closer match. Or are you saying the lavender fits better in the set overall?

I think lavender is closer to the original T500 base, but retro lav probably works better with CPC charcoal in this lineup -- all depends on how true to the AS set you want this to be.

I would definitely use lavender for the T5000 spot, though (with either dg green or saturn yellow).
