Hi all!

I just got my hands on some $1 chips from the MGM Springfield MA Casino and they honestly feel much more like Bud Jones chips than standard THC Paulsons. I am wondering if the Paulson chips switched formula/ stopped adding lead to the chips recently?

Paulsons have been lead-free approximately since the early 2000s. Depending on the color some switched earlier than that.

This chip has a few things making it lighter. One, it is inlaid and not hot stamped, so there is less clay material, and the inlay is much less dense. Two, it is RHC, and the thin outer rim also has less clay material than a THC. Third, the casino opened in 2018. There is not a chance that any lead is in that chip.

There is not one modern RHC chip that can come even CLOSE to competing with even an average Paulson chip from the 1980s. They can't do it. And if a casino has clay chips, 90% or more of them seem to be thin outer rim RHC or house mold chips. That's why we get all excited when something like Circus Circus Las Vegas gets a new rack of chips and they are THC.
