I was, uh... NOT just looking at pretty pictures of chips on Google images as a way to procrastinate...

Anyway, while I was 'working' I noticed in one pic that the $500k chips from the WSOP appear to have a substantially larger diameter than the other chips in the image, $100k and $25k. Is that something that is normal in the late stages of a casino tourney?

Two examples attached for your consideration. (not my pics)

It is somewhat common to see $1k and $5k/$25k
Or in tournament structures the upper denoms as you have shown to be oversized, I'm not sure if that's always been the way or if that's a more recent thing. Typically 43mm

The WSOP is the only poker tournament that I have heard of using oversized chips for their upper denoms. Those 500Ks that you have pictured are monsters. IIRC those are 50mm. The only 'chip' I have that is that size are the old school Palms Dealer and Kill buttons.

Hmm I think your right. There were no 25’s so likely not tournament. My bad. They tournament now!

The Harrah's you have pictured are also a label on a Star Line cash $20. Unless the T1K and T5K are 43mm as well.

I've never seen oversized tourney chips other than at the WSOP. And even then, it's only for certain events.

I think (not positive) that the Aria tournament chips might be all 43mm with a 48mm high denom. @ChaosRock @Tommy ?

Several non-US casinos use plaques for high denominations in their tourney sets. Some of the jeton-based tournament sets have several different sizes in play (which would drive me nuts, personally).
