I've purchased these from someone without seeing them in person. I've seen sets of plaques on eBay selling for $1500-8500 usually labeled as "rare Italian" set or something like that. Those prices seem incredibly high, but I was wondering if anyone has seen a set like this and if I'm getting anything of value.

In my experience, if the sales listing says "rare", it probably isn't. If it says "RARE!!!!", it definitely isn't. Hope you got a great deal and love your purchase.

That was my thinking, too. These were purchased for next to nothing, so I'm not risking much; I just wasn't sure what exactly I was getting.

That was a set that was sold in the 70's and early 80s in some of the higher end game stores. I believe the company that made them was based in Italy

Could be bakelite but probably not if manufactured from the 70s onward. Looks like a great pickup. Would be fun to play a game with them.
