Anyone in Canada back to hosting home games? (2 Viewers)

What does that mean? Are you calling me an asshole? I came in here...posted pictures..and was followed by political posts that put me off.

So if you're calling me an asshole...step up!!
Yup, that's me. You come onto a thread asking if Canadians are hosting games, obviously don't read the thread, post your pictures of your american home game, and then accuse everyone in the thread of not wanting to return to noramal.

The above behaviour, IMHO, equates to Asshole.

Well...how about I bitch slap you when I see you in person!!

I tried to add some pics to a dying thread hoping to instill life and hope into people thriving to play a real game.

Clearly...you're just looking to die on the vine!!

See ya bitch!!

The Provincial election can't come soon enough here. Everyone is suffering though, at least we have dodged the curfew for now..... I couldn't imagine.

Normal just might not look or feel like what it used to (at least initially). I have a feeling that continued mask wearing (though not "mandates") will continue to be a thing. Awareness and enforcement of hand hygiene will continue to be a thing, just like smoking restrictions. Yearly COVID vaccines might also become a thing, just like flu shots are.

100%, mask will be the new normal and honestly feel like it will be that way for years to follow, especially in Canada.

Mask wearing doesn't really bother me. So if it persists it's not a big deal. Wearing for an entire day can kinda suck but for quick trips and short outings it's not an issue.

One benefit, no one in my household has even had a cold for an entire year. So mask wearing and focus on hand hygiene has had a positive effect.

In Alberta, probably the most lax province in Canada in terms of Covid restrictions, it's been illegal to have private indoor social gatherings since late November.

I was invited to a game this Friday and I'm going. Hope the host's neighbours aren't ass hats and rat us out. Another group has been hosting games on a farm as it's remote and zero chance of getting busted. But I've been too lazy to make the trip out there.

Working in a hospital, I've also noticed that there have been no recorded outbreaks or hospital admissions for serious flu, which traditionally occurs in mid-autumn all through winter. The general compliance with COVID precautions has completely kicked flu to the curb.

I feel that. I'm itching to host. I've my Christmas Short Deck game and gifts for my players still on hold lol. At this point, it's going to merge into my Spring potluck mixed game night too lol

Oh hell...I thought I was jumping into a thread of peeps that wanted to get back to normal life. Clearly I was wrong. Carry on!!
You’ll have to excuse some of my fellow countrymen, they can be the ultra sensitive type. A lot of us up here also want to go back to normal, but here in Canada we forever bow to the wishes of the squeaky wheels. This covid thing will never be put to rest here, hand wringing and masks for life.

I’ve been hosting biweekly. Is it against the rules? Yes.

Why not? A year into this we really shouldn’t be calling it a lockdown anymore. If the governments can’t manage this after a year they can’t really tell people they aren’t allowed out of their homes. It’s getting beyond ridiculous.
Personal I can't stand morons like you who blame the government for not being able to control the virus but can't be bothered to follow the rules themselves. Maybe the problem is covidiots like you.

All is well my friend. We talked it out privately. No disrespect meant, and just a bit of a misunderstanding I suspect. Thanks!!

Don't worry guys, if we just lockdown for two short weeks it'll all go away.........

FWIW, here in Florida we've had poker rooms open since Mid-May. We have temp checks at entry, use sanitizer, masks and one of the rooms also has plexiglass dividers at the table.

The majority of folks I see in the Tampa area do wear masks (although not always correctly), there are rare instances of folks not wearing them, but few and far between in my experience.

I'm pretty sure if they continue pushing the always wear masks past May/June a LOT of people are going to stop wearing them regardless across the US.

Waiting patiently here. Having a lot of fun playing with my group online and having a video chat simultaneously. It's not the same, of course, and I can't wait to breath the same air as 9 other dudes for 8+ hours while bullshitting and splashing pots.

Grandma got her shot, parents and in-laws will be soon. Warm weather coming... we're almost there, so I'll pitch in a little longer.

I’m going to to just let that roll off my back because I know you and I would probably get along in person. and I would imagine following all of the “rules” would certainly have a toll on mental health, it sure did for me.

Just look at how this entire thing has been great for turning people against each other. I’m not offended because I’m neither a moron or a covidiot. We take measured precautions, but I think even the rule followers can argue that our governments aren’t infallible and have no real idea what they’re doing, it’s why the rules change depending on your province. With us (BC) being able to go out and eat at restaurants even during the worst of it, and Manitobans not being able to buy a book.

My comment about them not being able to manage it is just that perpetual lockdowns are showing the cure being worse than the disease. If after a year we can’t allow friends and families to see each other safely I consider that a failure of policy.

Lastly, I also see a lot of unhealthy people who get on their soapbox about following PHO orders, but prior to covid lived pretty unhealthy lifestyles. I hope everyone got their recommended 2.5 hours of exercise per week, ate a balanced diet and maintained a healthy weight before telling the rest of us to stay home and do nothing. :)

There was potentially one (well, maybe two, inter-related) big issue that could have accelerated Canada's pandemic response. One was investing into our ability to manufacture large doses of vaccine within the country, of which pretty much zero has been done over the years. The second was political interference that blocked the early clinical trials of a joint Canada-China developed vaccine candidate that the Chinese government never allowed to be shipped to Canada - this is because of a diplomatic issue over a Chinese national held in Canada awaiting possible deportation to US and two Canadian nationals being held in China in apparent retaliation.

So, things that get fucked up can always get further fucked up by the whim of people who just want to fuck things up.

I've never had an issue with masks, I really haven't.

Although seeing my friends lose businesses has been the biggest hurt. Millions of dollars and years of investment wiped out in months because we couldn't just quarantine the at risk. One of my friends is losing 3 restaurants in Manitoba. He tried to do the right thing and take care of his employees because it was "just two weeks", opened his hotels to domestic abuse victims, gave free food to people in need...

Unfortunately he did too much out of charity and didn't expect them to close him down completely in November. :(

Islander here.

It appears that since our province followed the health guidelines so well, we've had minimal exposure to covid. Casino closed in March 2020 and reopened back in the summer. Since then there have been two incidents of potential community spread that resulted in a "lockdown" which included the closing of non-essential business for approx two weeks while specific regions and demographics were tested, contact tracing was performed and exposure sites were researched and sanitized. People who lost work were paid $500 by the province both times within 2 days of applying.

The impact on home games was basically gatherings of 10 or more people from outside of your household were not permitted during the "lockdown" periods. Outside of that, we've had dozens of home games. There are bar tournaments where masking is required (but not always followed or enforced). Restaurants open for in-house dining but at reduced capacity. There's raked home games. The casino has table games.

Most people follow the health guidelines and see these restrictions as medical guidelines instead of some sort of government imposition. It's not some politician telling people what they can and can't do because they are flexing control over the working class. It's medical professionals using the best information they have to prevent illness and a subsequent health system overload. People here get this however there are a few people on the fringe who think that following scientific guidance is limiting their "freedom" somehow. They're like adults who missed out on punk rock and this is their way to be edgy and somehow 'stick it to the man'.

Personally, I've played about 250 hours of live poker in 2020 and about 550 hours in 2019. Also, there's no more poker at the casino, which is a shame but it was never incredibly profitable for them anyway.

Restaurants here have been impacted but the ones that will survive are the ones who innovate and offered curbside pickup or delivery etc. The same for a lot of impacted business. The ones that innovate and adapt successfully will survive.

Did your friend's employees apply for CERB? I don't see why the employer would need pay employees who weren't working (which is what I assume you're alluding to).

London, ON here (well just outside of it). My guys have been talking about it, pretty sure they’re playing this weekend - cash game and the fights. Smaller game, 6-7 people which is within the government colour code thing we have in place. (I believe it’s 10 and less allowed indoors). I personally haven’t played live since about a year ago. But from the sounds of it, we’re slowly starting back up.....
