I grew up playing Pinochle and Euchre. Lately we have had some problems coming up with 5+ players for our Wednesday games as people go on vacations. The last couple of nights four of us have been playing 500. It is a trick taking game that plays like a combination of Euchre and Bridge. It has everything that a great card game should have: team play, bluffing, strategy, gambol, etc. It should only be played for money if all are good friends since the ability to cheat via signals is so easy but it a fantastic game.

I'd love to play a few games with some PCFers if the opportunity presented itself.

Have played before but can't remember exactly how to play.

Players with good card sense could pick up the basics in a few hands. Having a Euchre/Bridge background is invaluable.

Wikipedia says it is a big game down under to this day and started around 1900.

I played a heap of Euchre in my early teens against with my Dad. Still love playing it, but everyone I try and get to play doesn't like it b

I play every Tuesday and play in the Nationals yearly

Euchre on Thursday Nights

Bolivia Thursdays

To bad I'm half a world away

Fave fun
PS I still fit in Poker Friday and Saturday nights

I used to play 500 with my high school friend and his parents. Great game. Tried to teach it to people but most would rather play pitch.

High, low, jack, game. 3 or 4 points a game. Great game to play for money. In my area lots of pitch leaves. Now that think of it, the league's are probabley why I like tournament poker.

My family mostly plays pitch, used to play Spades, pepper, huck, or hearts all the time too... 500 maybe twice ever.

What's the name of the variant in which the 5 counts five points?

Never played that variant, did play something that the 5 and 9 ( I think) counted as face value. Didn't care for that though. Also played "9 card" pitch where you discard and draw after the bid. Kinda easy because almost all the trump cards are out. we didn't play that way often. Takes the fun out of making a bid without much.
