I'm looking for one of the official movie prop KGB chips from the movie Rounders. Anyone have one they would be willing to sell? Please let me know.

Edit: I've been lurking here for a while and just realized I haven't posted yet. Hi everyone!

oh wow. soo tempted but just cant justify the price. :( so close though.. under 100 probably. With shipping and import duties to Canada it will be like 170 (190 CAN just for the $25 chip)

At any given moment, I remember the price for those Rounders chips was always pretty ridiculous. I never liked the Roman mold on the originals. I thought the scroll mold, HHR mold, and even the TR King replicas were better than the original.

10-15 years ago, spending $25 on a single ASM chip seemed pretty ridiculous. And of course, here we are now, and it's 5x the cost.

10 years ago, I also hesitated to buy custom spotted TR Kings at $0.86/pc, because c'mon man, Paulson is coming out with more and more variety of home poker chips on their new Paulson mold. We had Pharaoh's, Hat&Cane, Isthmus City, National Poker Series, Private Cardroom, Avalon Club, etc.

Now what do we have for "clay"? ASM/CPC? Dirty rounded edge closed down casino chips? Old Paulsons series that sees massive price inflation with each change of hands?

Sorry for the rant.

The sellers can name a price all they want, but there needs to be a market of people to buy them.

And... past performance is not guarantee of future returns.

It has certainly got worse, not better to put together a nice home set. One reason I always argue for people to stretch their budget as far as they can when making custom sets.

No guarantee the supply will always be there.

Well.. I caved and grabbed the $100. The thought of it possibly being splashed into Teddys pot at the end just made me feel great. Ultimate card guard!

Hear hear.

When I think back to all those agonizing decisions I made about whether to buy chips or not chips over the last 10-15 years, I can safely come to this conclusion: I've never regretted buying chips. I've more often than not regretted NOT buying chips.

I think the main issue here, despite the fact that there seems to be more and more poker chip nuts who will spend this kind of money on multiple home poker sets, is that there still aren't enough buyers to support the existence of multiple chip manufacturers.

The closedown of BCC, TR King, Chipco proves this.

So if there's anyone to blame, it's us.:(

Well.. I caved and grabbed the $100. The thought of it possibly being splashed into Teddys pot at the end just made me feel great. Ultimate card guard!

Sorry for the OP, There are other chips still there.

All I can say is, DON'T DROP IT ON THE FLOOR!*

And congrats.

And sorry to the OP, who probably is now screaming in agony.

Note (2/21/05): After having a durability test a few weeks ago, it became very apparent that ALL ASM chips are more fragile than their BlueChip Co. and Paulson cousins. Dropping the chips from a height of 4 feet caused the ASM to break in half within 4 to 7 drops. At over 20 drops per chip, the BlueChip and Paulsons were only showing minor dings and scrapes. Keep that in mind if you expect to play over a hard (tile/cement) floor.WEIGHT: 8.6 - 9.3 grams.
FEEL: 8
QUALITY: 7 (due to chips breaking and chipping when dropped)
LOOKS: 7.5 Manufacturer: ASM

Well you dont have to tell me twice. I currently own a set of CPC and sold a custom set a month or so ago. No stranger to ASM/CPC :) but thanks

Question... there was a replica production of these. How different are the replicas from the original production for the movie? Is one ever so slightly different? I dont doubt the realness of the certificate but just hope there was no 'bait and switch' going on here. Seller has a 100% and overall good standing on eBay.

any help on this would be great....

I think you're good.

ASM does not and will not remake these on the original Roman mold that was used in the movie props, so there's no switcheroo going on. That had been hashed and rehashed in the past.

Just do a google search for Rounders replicas. There were ones w/ large scroll mold, ones on horsehead mold, there's a TR King replica, and there were personal ones. All of them are different than the "official" Roman mold rounders chips.

ahh I did do a search on the replicas and they looked really really close.
So for sure this is the real deal then.

And sorry OP... sometimes chip buying works that way. Good luck with the other denominations!

Are you an old poster from CT? Obviously you've been around the block.

Yea I'm from ol' CT days. Like Dr. Dre says, "still the same ol' G, but I been low key."

I pop up from time to time, spring a few comments, then go away for another 5 years, lol. Not a lot of time. Sold some of my chips, regretted them, bought some back.

I organized the first ever ASM group buy at CT, back when they only offered 312 edge spots.

nice. welcome to PCF. Less intense on the eyes!

thanks for sharing that info. I was scrolling through big blue looking for more info. See this picture:

So looks like movie props are black and white with a smaller bear. PAZ posted that as the left chip being the movie chip

Note there was a replica group buy on the roman mold, the inlay was slightly different (I believe the bear was brown instead of black and the denominations were black instead of red).

Ah yes, you are correct. I think that was probably after the first GB. I thought initially that was a personal custom set that someone did, but it might have been a GB.

So on one side it's a brown bear facing right (the correct way) and on the observe it's a black bear facing left. Interesting. Maybe they had to be different enough to the original Roman mold Rounders props to be made.

Not sure of PCF's forum rules about linking out, but if it's not allowed I'll remove it.

Chipco's stuff was everywhere because it's just a printer printing on ceramic disks that can be mass produced, unlike the more expensive compression molded chips. It's also because they cater to the home market as casinos find them to be somewhat of a security risk.

I'm not sure exactly what happened. I didn't follow it as it happened and only found out afterwards, but maybe this can shed some light on the situation.

Why did Chipco close down?
- tax fraud?
http://calvinayre.com/2015/03/23/poker/former-poker-chip-company-owner-guilty-of-tax-evasion/
http://www.pressherald.com/2015/03/...-poker-chip-company-convicted-of-tax-evasion/

What happened to the equipment?
- some passed to a newly formed company (Game On Chip), some sold to Palm Game International (PGI)
http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/threads/pgi-update.83219/
http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/threa...company-assets-sale-of-sales-is-coming.83076/

What happened to the Chipco employees?
- started another poker chip company in Maine (not 100% sure about this)
http://www.gameonchipcompany.com/

Ah, and I just ordered a 9 Dragons dealer button from Game On Chip and saw that they were in Maine (didn't think there were any local chip making companies). Wow, had no idea that Chipco was local as well. I have a bunch of casino chips in my collection made by them.

Well I just shot off a letter to Johns production company Mr. Mudd with an ace of diamonds enclosed. Fingers crossed he gets it. Im sure if he gets it he will return it. Probably a request he does not get too often.
Going to send to Matt also in the next few days the ace of hearts. If I cant get them both back it will make for quite a display piece along with the chip

I was a part of this group buy. We were originally told we couldn't have the Roman mold, but with the brown bear and denom., we got it! I love these chips and I'd even add more if I could! Props to Smitty for organizing this one.

Great idea about the Aces to John and Matt!

thanks. Its worth a shot. I know matt is a poker player so I am sure he would not mind helping me out with this. Thats if he gets it of course
I cant see Johns fan mail being too large.

I also am contemplating sending the other two black aces to Ed Norton and possibly John Turturro. Or anyone else in the movie more suitable than Knish???
