Just curious since for many of my early years that was a pretty good second income for me. Knowing that gamblers love to gamble they often have more than just poker in their mix. I used to play very competitively and was going through my office closet and came across a few of my old cues. I am getting ready to part ways with a few of them them and thought I would see if there is any interest(PM me if interested) I am not posting them in the classifieds.

This is not a sale at this time but thought it would be a good topic to post.

David

I'm probably in the same boat. I used to play a ton in university but haven't played much at all since getting into poker. I have a graphite two piece cue in a carrier with a dragon emblem on the carrier and cue (very azn I know). It's now just taking up space in my storage locker.

Hey if you can play a broom stick works!!!. As I said I played a bunch. A few memories I have are - I once met Willie Masconi, played a game of six ball against Minnesota Fats (won), had a good friend who was the inspiration for the main character for the movie "The Hustler" and got to play Jeanette "Black Widow" Lee a session of nine ball (got my but whipped by her and more especially her husband).

I actually have two Hunter Classic and one Brunswick made by Joss that I will be getting rid of.

And AZN is not a bad thing!!!

Very cool. I've never met any pool celebrities. The Hustler was a great movie.

Way cool. Funny, that's one of my grandpa's favorite stories to tell, that he also played Minnesota Fats. He won 1 out of 3 games.

I'm pretty decent. My grandpa always had a table growing up, and my stepdad bought one when I was in highschool. Hopefully I'll have a place one day that'll have room for one--will be one of my first purchases after moving in.

I've been playing in a bar league for last couple years now. It had been years since I played regularly until a group from work decided to put a team together. It's nice to get out and play again. It did take a good year before my stroke and aim felt solid again.

Yes between the ages of 17 and 21 I played and hustled. This was in the 1980's, so yes I am sort of an old fart. Back then it was nothing to play $100 a game. I was a nine-ball player and also specialized in one pocket. I quit playing when I got married at 21 years because after marriage my first son was born. About 95% of the play was at night and not good for a newly wed to push it too far with their bride(still married after 30 years) After several years my wife convinced me to play again knowing I could have gone pro if I had kept it up. So at age 30 I played in a BCA league and and APA league. We placed second in Texas 8 ball league. At that level of play the only options when you shot were runout, play safe or lose! I actually made a very hard long rail bank shot on the 8 ball that won the game to place 2nd. I almost played it safe but as a true degen would do I said, "#%! I am here to win!". Those were some fun times. We even qualified and played in the BCA Nationals and placed 123 out of something like 800 teams. Should not have lost and should have at least placed in the top 20 - 50 teams but that is a story for another day.

I spent some formative years shooting in the Metuchen, NJ pool hall owned by Steve Mizerak. Played straight and one pocket against him a number of times, without any success at all. 8;)

Played a ton while in the army. Used to be active in Usenet pool groups, especially rec.sport.billiards, and competed at a bunch of their equivalent of CT/PCF meat-up in the US and Canada. Played BCA, APA, and VNEA leagues, and went to Vegas a few times for the nationals.

Sadly, lost the sight in my right eye a few years ago, so really can't shoot decently any more. Still have a few cues, though, which I really should get rid of, pictured here:

All of those are your cues? I cannot remember how many I have bought and sold over the years. I had a Richard Black that was made for "Fast Eddie" Parker (the man that the movie "The Hustler" was based on). It had the inscription on the cue itself. Back then if it could be sold for a profit it was gone. I had actually won it from a guy that owed me like $700 from a session of one pocket. He didn't have the money and was not going to get out of my "house" without paying up. I sold it a week later for $1500. So I was not a collector back then. I wish I was.

If those are all yours and if I were selling them the two I would keep are the Pechauer and the Schon.

All I have now is a McDermott, Meucci (used to be my favorite brand), a Brunswick made by Joss and two Wes Hunter's

Nice cue collection

Nice collection! Those Sneaky Petes are nice. Noticed your avatar to. Our league team name is Slow Rollers.

Wow. Nice cue collection! I played snooker and pool quite a lot when I was in university but haven't really played much since then. I don't have any pool cues though and would usually just pick one up off the house rack.

I have had a couple nice cues here and there, but never played very seriously. My grandpa had an amusement business so I was always around pool tables. The only cue I have left is a Pechauer Sneaky Pete. I will post a pic up when I get home from work.

Nice collection Larry!!

Thanks. Yes, they're all mine.

That Pechauer is a work of art, isn't it? Very Picasso-esque.

I think if I only keep two, they will be the Scruggs Hoppe, because that was the last one I had Tim put the elephant-ear leather on when he was alive, and the plain-Jane Palmer, because it was my first quality cue -- I ordered it new in 1975 -- original blue wrap and all.

And I really love the ebony and ivory Dale Perry, from when he was making great cues, and not mass marketing on eBay.

And the Steve Klein ebony and bloodwood.

And ...

Yes very nice cues and I would concur with your choices although it would be hard to get rid of a Schon for me. The sticks I have I have been using for years and are in as good a condition as the day I bought or won them. It seems that over the last year or so I have been cleansing. I have replaced old furniture at the house by either selling it dirt cheap or giving it away to the person who came to pick it up since they appeared to really need it and probably could not afford it. Sometimes you just get that feeling that they are way better off with it and they need it more than you really need the money. This cleansing has carried through to some of my collections of autographs and now pool cues. The only thing I do not see me cleansing right now are my CHIPS!!!

No, I don't play pool. But the cabin I bought last spring came with a nice Brunswick in the basement. So far, every visitor who has come to stay with me at the cabin has kicked my butt in pool. It's pretty pathetic. I need to practice :)

Awesome, I played in the early 90's, A LOT, Had one at the pad, and at a friends house, and we hung out at the local pool Hall. Played mostly 8, but I love a good 9...I too hustled any chance I got and sometimes I would play using one hand to give the other person an advantage...hehe....

I just picked up a pool table, I am going to re-felt it and set it up soon....I might be interested in a cue or a few...

Thanks @David O for the cool story...

You need to find out which Brunswick table you have. If it is an older table you may have a Centennial or if you are lucky you could have a Gold Crown which are a sought after table in the pool community.

Thanks, it is always fun to reminisce.

If you are a serious pool player I would guess when you recover your table you are going to use Simonis 860 or at least Gorina Granito Cloth? If you are in the market for a great set of balls let me know. I may have an extra set of used Super Aramith Pro Tournament Balls and yes let me know if you need a cue!

Pm me your email addy and I can send you some pics.

Then go with the Granito. It is a bit cheaper than the 860 and plays just as well. In fact that is what I have on my table and teenagers played on it for several year. The great thing is it will not "pill" like regular cloths. Well worth the additional cost to get better playability out of your table.

Completely forgot to do this the other day...Pechauer Sneaky Pete

Yep, played pool my whole life but have put the cue down over the last 10 years, sadly. I have a few Scruggs cues. My first Scruggs was the green one.

Me in Vegas in 2009 after we won the Mosconi Cup. My buddy Dennis Hatch is on the far right, I'm sure you all know the rest, or you should ;)

Out of touch for a lot of years now... Know Archer, Varner, Deuel only, sorry. Could you provide all the names to the faces? Thanks

Know Shane by name only, and don't know Dominquez at all. :(

Shane is the best player I've ever seen. Played some sick money matches, especially vs Alex Pagulayan. He's almost completely deaf too, which I think really helps him. You can find plenty of matches on youtube of him. Brilliant and creative player. Dominguez I believe got on the team that year because of points, if I'm not mistaken. My guy, Dennis Hatch, I believe was voted on by the fans that year. He also won MVP of the tournament and this was the last year they won until 2018.

Shame about your eyesight. The Miz was great, got a few matches of his archived. You have a nice collection of cues, sir. I love your Scruggs cues, the cocobolo sneaky looks like a real player. The Russ Espiritu cocobolo is another fine piece. Cue collecting is fascinating, another hobby my wallet hates. More personal because each cue is handcrafted by the maker. I had several other Scruggs I've sold over the years but the two I'd never part with are the bottom two. Btw, I've never seen a full sneaky like mine from Tim, have you? Came with 2 shafts and is 58.5", ivory ferrules, plays fantastic.

That four-pointer is a real beauty! And yes, from what I've seen, that sneaky may be unique. Tim had a hard time letting a cue go out the door without some personal little touch. :cool

Being 6'3", I've always preferred cues weighing 20-22 oz. and longer than 58", but they're hard to find unless you have them custom made. That said, the Scruggs Hoppe is probably my favorite stick ever. For looks, the Dale Perry with the real ivory. And I still love my original Palmer, but I have no idea why I chose that bright blue wrap when I had it made! Still in the army, so I probably couldn't afford leather...

Wow, I play but not on your level. I've met a few pros and played games for money but far from a hustler. Your cues sound amazing, a Joss was the first real cue I ever fell in love with. Predator was my second and now my only. I own a P3 first edition with a Z2 and Z3 shaft. I play well enough to beat anyone once but always wanted this to be fun not work so never put in tons of practice. I stopped learning with counting diamond.
