Annoying Poker “Shtick” (2 Viewers)

Instead of sliding the top card of the deck forward, slide it towards yourself and hold it up so you can see it. Keep that arc of motion going in a circle away from you until the card lands face-up on the board. But pause for a fraction of a second to let the card register in your mind so that everyone at the table knows that you know what it is.

For extra douchebag points, call out what you think the card will be "here comes a four..." and then as soon as you see it say "nope" before it hits the table.

FYP

We have a player in our league do this, and it...is...annoying.

Oh, you mean dealing the cards on the board.....but still have yet to see that one thankfully

I've seen the little blind and big blind in casinos when people missed their blinds. I've also seen the missed blind in some casinos. I've never seen where there was a dealer button, Little Blind and Big Blind used.

The most annoying thing for me is when the people who ALWAYS fold then see the flop come out announce what they had like "I hit two pair" or "I folded the flush". They don't say it too loud, but loud enough where a lot of people hear it.

Missed Blind and Big Blind are often used interchangeably. They will use a small blind button if you miss only the small blind (I.e., you walk after paying the big but before paying the small). This is so the dealer knows how much you have to post.

I’d be glad never to hear again...
  1. “Winner, winner, chicken dinner”
  2. “Dooces never looses”
  3. “The price of poker just went up”
  4. “Where was that last hand?”
  5. “I know you have me beat” [calls]
  6. [Dealer:] “Two of the best / Three good players”
  7. “Is it on me?“ / “What are the blinds?” / “What’s the bet?”
  8. “Could you run that?”
  9. “Oh, what the hell” / “OK, let’s gamble”
  10. “But they were suited”
  11. “You have to get lucky sometimes to win a tournament”
  12. “You win it all” [the cards & the chips]
And, per an earlier comment... “Strudel.” Wasn’t funny the first time... Still unfunny years later.

“What are the blinds” also should get a triple penalty when it gets asked *seconds after* someone announced the blinds.

Never heard “strudel” for straddle either.....though this may be because I don’t allow straddles in my game and rarely see them in other home games.
I hate straddles. I realize they are considered a legit part of the game in many places but I personally consider them basically poker shtick.
If you want to straddle just raise the blinds or if you are in a casino move to a higher limit table. Otherwise it just seems like you are really trying to push an image of the crazy reckless gambler type player like you see on TV .... but you don’t have the balls to just play higher.

I also hate Kill pots and banned those from my limit game before NL got popular.

add this one to the list, too......

13. “I think I have the best hand” [folds]

Dumbest comment ever. Or worst decision-making, take your pick.

Using a dealer button when passing the deal.

Guilty.

In my defense, my cards go in front of me, under my card capper. Muck goes under the button. Burn cards touch the pot. It's just good procedure to track correctly burned cards (which should not go in the muck) and to protect the muck in a self dealt game. Is it necessary - no. Is it helpful - absolutely.

Other players in my game use the button to cap their own cards when dealing, so it is useful to them as well.

Finally, as players are eliminated (tournaments), it is common for them to deal for the table. Having a button on the table, and constantly passed is already a habit that does not need to suddenly be implemented in level 12.

We usually move to a dealer and pull out a button once down to 3 players, but the late implementation doesn’t seem to be a problem. When there is a fuller table it seems like the physical button often gets forgotten, and then it just causes confusion because it is in the wrong place. People usually have a pretty good memory of having just been the big blind when it is only coming around every 8/9 hands.

Still, see your point. I might even prefer it your way but don’t think people would be as consistent with it as you are.

I’ve never heard this before. Now typically at my games the turn/river are placed on top of the burned cards on the board. What is the reasoning behind the burned cards not hitting the muck? Not questioning your correctness, more curious as to the rationale. I’m guessing it has some sort of anti cheating origination.

“Dooces never looses”
Deuces almost always lose. There aren't many situations where I'll play them. But like any other idiocy, I'm glad to hear it, if it means my opponents are playing bad poker.

Agreed; I never straddle. The only thing it is good for IMHO is identifying player types.

There’s the guy who always straddles and then always bombs the pot. (I limp if I have a good hand then repop his autobomb.)

There’s the guy who always straddles then just checks to limpers. (I’ll usually 3x raise the straddle)

There’s the guy who makes it clear that he thinks this 1/2 table is ridiculous and beneath him so he wants to make it more like 2/5. (Just play solid against this guy.)

And so on. My take on straddling is that it is a -EV play in almost all situations unless you’ve got an unusually tight table where you can expect five limpers who will all fold if you then pot it preflop. I still don’t do it. Seems mainly an ego play.

Oh, agreed... But I’d still rather not hear it. (If my opponent compulsively sang the Barney song, that would also be a good sign... But I would have to leave/shoot him.)

If the action gets suddenly stopped - say the dealer knocks and burns (or starts to burn), then a player speaks up saying they haven't acted yet. Then they take their action quickly (call or check). that leaves someone asking "did he already burn". You look at the burn cards and can tell without doubt if the burn card hit the table (or was replaced on top of the deck).

Make sense. Thanks.
