I wanted to share this Flandreau, SD bad beat jackpot story with you all. The casino is a half hour drive north from where I live and it's not much of a casino or much of a poker room. The games are limit with a 2-4 or a 2-10 spread. In 2008 the bad beat was up to 98k and it finally hit however there was an issue during the hand. The two involved in the hand remained silent during the hand but some mumbling drunk was talking about how the hand could be the bad beat (we've all seen these guys). There are bad beat qualifying rules listed at entrance of the poker room and one of the rules is you can't discuss the bad beat during a bad beat hand. The casino refused to pay it out and the silent loser and the rest of the table fought it as far as they could fight it but still lost. The table would have received around 3k each, the loser would have got around 44k, and the winner 24k. I can't imagine being the 2 involved that did nothing wrong. I was wondering if anyone else on here had some enraged gambling stories they wanted to share. I'll post the link for any non-believers.

Rules are rules. Probably to prevent collusion and someone soft playing a hand that qualifies.

Right ruling, but there's a special circle of hell for this loudmouth
It still seems crazy that that the guy who didn't break the rules gets punished and suffers the most severe punishment. The loudmouth shouldn't get paid but everyone else should get their cut.

Ugh. So much wrong with this story...

A bad beat is a poker term that describes a situation when a heavily favored hand loses to what is deemed to be an underdog hand.

Wrong.

In the first round of community cards available to all the players, the flop, the ace of clubs and queen of diamonds were dealt.

A two-card flop. Interesting.

(I realize that he is decribing 2 of the three cards, but if you're unfamiliar with the game, that's not clear.)

Also, @SiouxperStack, the drunk mumbler WAS NOT in the hand. He lost only the table share, not $24k.

You're right. I've heard this story so many times and I've always heard it as the winner of the hand was talking but it was some drunk mumbler. even worse!

Yeah I read that . I've heard the story as the winner spoke up but I corrected the original post. It's a legendary poker story told at many nearby casinos. whenever the bad beat gets mentioned that story usually gets told.

The worst bad beat stories are the ones where you need to use both cards to qualify and the two hands are like JhJs and 9d8d and the board is JdJc10dQd and Kd hits the river.

Or you are playing scrotum and hold kkk and get it in against 333...... ;)

I have heard similar stories like this where the casino takes a hard line on paying out bad beats and I have never
understood why they would take this approach. "Rules are rules"; sure but they have discretion in border-line cases. Taking a hard
line just pisses people off. Pissing off your customers is not good business. I am going to go play poker at the
casino that actually pays there BBJP!

My take is they prefer not to pay when there is an issue like this because the a large bad beat jackpot attracts more players to the room.

After reading the article, the dealer seems to be the a-hole here.

Lucky they didn’t get a blanket party when they left.

Poor Pathammauong, unable to sleep or go to work and feared for his safety.....
I hope this lesson of life made him sober for life and he stopped drinking ... that's the only thing that worth the lost of 95k

....and people still getting frustrated when I remain them that "if you are not involved in the hand STFU"

I had complete opposite history (sorry I use to forget my bad beats)
When I was in Vegas for the first time, I cracked a full house with quads in a 1/2 game. Obviously, the hand went all in, I snap called and I showed quads...
And I did not get why, the whole table was so happy, even the guy to whom I cracked the full house has happy and the guy next to me was cheering me and taping my shoulder... til the dealer said " well done sir, FLOOR !! "
Then I realized that there was some kind of Jackpot, something that I've never seen in Europe and I thought that was an american myth ...
