I plan on building a round table soon and I was wondering if anyone has used nontraditional fabric as an alternative to felt or speedcloth. I was thinking about using tweed. I’m looking for something that looks muted but elegant. Anybody ever use tweed? Or have you used anything that’s unusual? Curious how that worked for you.

I ended up using a polyester blend. I couldn’t find a wool tweed that I liked. The one I used is weaved so the cards and chips slide well. However, it’s not soft and even a little rough on the fingertips. Overall, I’m pretty happy with it, but a can’t wait to re-felt it with a custom job.

Neoprene is another option. Not like felt, though.
