Advice for someone looking for heavily weighted (14g +) chips? (1 Viewer)

I've considered this a potential drawback of pursuing heavier chips - If I end up ordering 750-1k of them, it'd make for a heavy birdcage. And would probably just break any aluminum case.
Naw, chips are heavy but cases can take it. I'd be more worried about the birdcage, they're structurally weak and not designed for extended hauling.

1000 15g chips is 33 pounds (or, you know, 15 kilos if you're metric or whatever). That's heavy enough to be awkward to carry one-handed, but far from an impossible task. I'd probably split it up into two cases just for convenience when moving them about.

Not all cases are created equal. I had a 500ct set of the Monte Carlo chips and I had to always lock the case because the weight of them would force the case open and chips would be everywhere. I've never doubted my birdcages. Definitely invest in a good quality case if you're buying heavier chips.

If you are a chip-shuffler, heavy chips suck after an hour or two of play. I say this as someone who spends a ton of time doing outdoor labor... Shuffling these still make my hand sore.

Just to be clear for the OP, be sure to read up on Binyon's chips (and note the spelling difference from Binion's) here on the forum before deciding to pick up a set. I mean, if you want heavy, this is it, but make sure you know what you're getting.

I'm grateful for the replies & thoughts in the thread, and want to thank everyone who commented. I've just received some coin inlay samples (nothing as nice as Bud Jones, just the Casino Las Vegas ones) and I don't think I'd want a set of these - they're very hard to see due to glare and the chips don't have a great feel to them.

I've been seriously looking at Outlaw chips. Although I haven't yet found any sample sets to ship to Canada, they seem like a great option for a relative beginner. Has anyone had experience with Outlaws? Spartan chips also seem very similar, but I couldn't find out if there are any differences between the two besides the labels (of which I think I prefer the outlaws). I viewed Hobbyphilic's youtube videos on them, which helped, but would love to hear first-hand experience from anyone here. Anyone use either of these chipsets?

They're out of my price range, but those are awesome haha.

I loved the movie Casino, Tangiers would be cool if there were more denominations & availability. Thanks for the resource, they certainly seem to be overvalued based on the pricing I've seen on them versus public opinion on their quality.

I had a complete set of Outlaws. They’re fine for the money and probably the best cheap chip at around 14cents/chip. I gave mine away because they were replaced with others - but also you’d never be able to sell them as they’re worthless on the second hand market.

Generally speaking I’d say that all plastic chips lose value. About 5 years ago a 600 ex casino chip set sold here for $4k or $5k which you would think is a crazy. Not so when the same set would definitely sell for more today. So you may think we’re crazy for spending a lot on chips but the reality is that many store value. I spent $220 total on outlaws and lost $220. I have never lost money on clay chips.

That’s you’re opinion buddy. And you’re opinion is subjective. If OP gets B&G chips which are 14 grams , they are nothing but amazing. Yeah if we are talking those cheap Chinese garbage , I’ll say Skip too.
But BG chips , which are not cheap are very very nice chips and I’ll prefer those just as Paulsons. So don’t say don’t if you’re just not into them yourself.
B&G , and Abbiati are the best chips out there and even better and more durable than paulsons. Trust me on that one.
Hello I would like to ask you a few questions regarding poker chips as you seem quite knowledgeable and you also stay in Europe. I just have a few questions regarding, what set or chips should I buy. I posted a small thread just an hour ago. It would help a lot as I am totally new to poker chips in the professional sense I guess.
