We've all been there before; some more than others. Sometimes I look it at hoping to see something new but it just sits there day after day a mere shell of it's glory years.

I cut the CT bookmark some time ago. Still know how to type it though, and it pops up in the address bar after typing "chipt". "c" brings up chipguide. That's how I knew it was time to go.

Sadly, PCF does not pop up with "p". Paypal does, and it's PCF's fault.

Will we have to pay $100 for a lifetime membership to be able to access it? Can we have it hosted somewhere where it's not compromised by spam bots? (snark out)

Sorry, no I was referring to CT acting as it's own archive...as in that's all I use it for...to look up old threads. But can live without them and won't pay to. Didn't mean to infer anything else.

Nothing lasts forever. Especially when it comes to current relevance on the internet. I am just glad I was there during the glory years of the poker boom, attended some fantastic meet-ups that were the first of their type and was part of such a great collective of fellow hobbyists who we all conspired together to make the U.S. Postal Service regret their flat rate shipping program.

So all the broken links will remain preserved?

Broken links to imageshack, photobucket, and other photo sharing sites are broken because the either the posters deleted, moved, or renamed their photos, or their photos were deleted by the service (e.g., imageshack deleted photos when they significantly reduced their free service).

Broken links to CT gallery photos are capable of being fixed globally, but I understand it's not a simple fix. Individual members can modify the links in their own posts, as I fixed mine, if they are so inclined. Mods have the capability of editing posts to fix the links, but fixing every link manually would be a mind boggling job for any single person. By hovering over a broken-link symbol or right-clicking it and selecting "Inspect" (on a PC, at least), you can determine whether a photo was on a file sharing service or is currently in the member's CT gallery.

Images that were uploaded as attachments are fine.

As a community, we should learn from this that uploading our images as attachments is much better than linking to images hosted elsewhere.

With broken links, the "archive" becomes an archaeological expedition, rather than a stroll through a museum. Either way, it's not a living society (unless you have access to a TARDIS). To put nearly every thread at CT into perspective...
