With help from your group I recently purchased a set of custom chips from BR Pro Poker. I am now looking for a recommendations for a carrying case. I would like a cube shaped clear acrylic case. There are several options on Amazon, and one from BR Pro Poker. Can anyone recommend a case? The chips will travel to and from friends houses, as well as to a bar for monthly tournaments, if/when corona ends.

Sorry I should have noted, the custom set is 500 chips, though sometimes I use up to 600.

You may want to search the forum a bit...there are a fair number of posts that don’t recommend traveling with a case like that (referred to as a birdcage) for various reasons

The overwhelming sentiment here is that the acrylic bird cages are not good for transporting chips. There is, however, a Versa 600 ct carrier that will allow you to store your chips in racks inside of it. If you do not want to use racks inside of there, then a standard case is your best best. If you want to go big, then some use heavy duty Pelican cases.

I would say do some searching here and you will find positives and negatives about every option.

If you’re talking about those casino style cases, often called birdcages, I’d reconsider. Those aren’t really made for traveling.

Thanks, I've been doing that. The case is a gift for my buddy (as were the chips). He's had cheapo aluminum before, and said they broke fairly easily, so we was looking for something durable.

Thanks. He already has a ton of racks that he transports chips on in a tote of some sort.

I'm looking at apache cases from harbor freight now. Does anyone have experience using them? It LOOKS like the interior has several foam cubes that can be removed to make space for the racks and chips etc. Is that the case or do I need I need to also purchase some kind of custom inserts?

Get covered racks for all your chips, then a high quality carrying case with peel and pluck foam so they fit nice and snug. Keep some room for accessories like cards, dealer buttons, etc.

That’s one of the brands of cases many here recommended, yes. The foam ‘cubes’ are what @allforcharity referred to as ‘peel and pluck’

It's called pick & pluck foam and those cases like the Apache are the best choice for transporting chips away from home. Like others have said acrylic birdcages are great for display and moving chips inside the house but wouldn't trust them anywhere else, car, airplane, etc...

The Pelican/Apache/Nanuk/MM style cases are what photographers and other people use to transport sensitive equipment/guns/etc.... They buy them by the boatload around here for the Sheriff's office/surveyors/coroner/etc... They also can usually be locked for transport especially for taking on the plane and most of the smaller sizes qualify for carry on status.

They are plenty of threads in the Poker Cases & Racks forum that will give you plenty of ideas.

Here is one of my typical layouts for a 800 chip set.

For comparison purposes the above pictured case in a Member's Mark 16" case which was available at Sam's Club but aren't available anymore. The comparable case in sizes are:

Pelican 1450 (most expensive)
Nanuk 920 (medium prices)
Apache 3800 (best deal usually around $30) which compared to a birdcage is a steal

There are also other brands of hard cases out there, Amazon, Monoprice, etc and plenty of different sizes available. All have varying types of P&P foam but are fairly similar in style. If your going to be carrying a larger set 1000+ around I would recomend one of the cases with wheels (ie: Pelican 1500 or equivilant) to save yourself from getting a hernia from lifting and carrying.

Awesome. Thanks
