Yet, many others on here feel differently.
You should understand by now that there is a few people on here who illicit a pack mentality from about ten other people, it probably has a whole lot less to do with what is being "done" vs "who" is the one doing it, no matter what issue you are questioning. I was talking about how shitty it was for a few members to treat other members the way they were in a thread over the summer and received a few messages from people with links or recommendations to search CT for the same kind of thing, low and behold the same group of people have been accused repeatedly for a long time, like 5 years long. It's just the way it is, won't stop, won't change, it's the internet, roll with it. Making true relationships and connections is much more important than figuring out why a few forum cops don't like what someone does. (All that being said, I have no opinion on chip flipping. I have ALWAYS broke even or taken a loss when selling chips and that won't change. Same with buying, if someone is flipping something for a profit and I like it I will buy it, but I know there are a good number of people out there who will give me a good deal, so it all works out.)
Don't think this is the only place where this goes on though, I've been talking on message boards since the late 90's and this kind of thing is almost universal, so much so that I could show you different forums with almost the
exact same posting personalities on each one; you want an old grumpy guy that "takes pride" in being the old grumpy guy? Check, every forum has a couple. You want the guy that starts every thread that every message board has and some how knows it all or "was just talking about this subject with other people before this thread came up"? Those guys are a dime a dozen, every forum has them. How about the "extreme" guy that is over the top in everything, like the guy on the golf forum that has the most expensive bag, or the guy on AR15 who has every toy you could imagine strapped to his rifle, or the guy on the snowboard forum who can name every trick and talk mad game, or the guy on the freestyle mx board who has the bike all set up for freestyle and posts in every thread "oh man, wish i was there, I would have been ripping"....except you end up meeting these people in real life and for some reason, well, it's just not the same. "Man, I wish I could ride like I normally do, but this knee acted up at the wrong time", "I don't know what the fuck is going on, usually my drives are 300 yards center fairway and today they're 200 yards in the trees.".... All the same dude, and it's what the internet is built on.
My advice? Don't worry about it, make relationships with the other 99% of the people in the chipping world who don't go out of their way to be an asshole to you because "you" (not speaking to just you, anybody who has these feelings of confusion for why some things are ok for some and not for others) got off on the wrong foot with the wrong user name and avatar. You will end up meeting people who have the exact same opinion you do but got over peacocking on the internet a long time ago, or better, was never into it at all. Those are the people you want to play home games with, trade chips with, shoot the shit with....and they are the majority.
You;ll be a lot happier here if you quit trying to figure out why and realize that it just is, it's the way of the internet for people in 2016, and things like facts or a mature attitude won't change some peoples ways. Not saying you're not happy or losing sleep over it, but threads like these, I mean, you know why it's like that for some people and not for others by now, right?
