Hello, I am looking for advice on the breakdown of what poker chips to buy. We are going to be playing tournament style however I'd like to get the Majestic CC poker chips as I got a sample of those chips and really like them. I've seen a lot of ways to break down poker chip sets and most of the breakdowns all suggest either $20 or $50 chips. Majestic CC poker chips down have those values though so I'm not sure what to buy. Thanks for the help!

I would also be curious what the recommended breakdown for 300 chips would be.. and what the expansion to 500 later on would take?

Standard 300-chip breakdown for a single table tourney (up to 10 players):
$25 x 80
$100 x 80
$500 x 40
$1000 x 80
$5000 x 20

Better breakdown for 10 players—400 chips total:
$25 x 120
$100 x 120
$500 x 50
$1000 x 80
$5000 x 30

Starting stacks 8/8/4/7

500 chips seems wasteful, but you could either add more lower denoms and cover more players, or add higher denoms to play deeper stacks.

*Majestics come in rolls of 25, so you’ll have extras.

600 chips for up to 20 players:
$25 x 160
$100 x 160
$500 x 80
$1000 x 160
$5000 x 40

I bet you haven't seen those breakdowns around these here parts! ;)

Just kidding, but no, none of those denominations are recommended. You've got some good advice above, but please tell us the number of players you want to support, that way you'll get more specific advice tailored to your needs.

Good advice here, you would do 8/8/4/7 for each starting stack using the first breakdown, or 12/12/5/6 for the better breakdown.

But he is right to point out that you do need to purchase in quantities of 25.

So the first breakdown would accommodate 9 players doing 75/75/50/75/25 of T25/100/500/1000/5000 for 300 chips. (Including a few spares of each)

Or buy 125/125/50/125/25 to accommodate 10 players suing the "better" breakdown for 400 chips.

Hope this helps.

Welcome!

Do nonstandard denoms if that’s your thing but for playability use denoms that are evenly dividable by each other to avoid situations where it’s not possible to make change i.e T5k = 5 x T1ks or T100 = 4 x T25, and not T50 = 2,5 x T20
