I had just a general question for whom ever may want to discuss it but my friends and I like to play micro stakes and tourney games with my friends. But is it me or is it seem a little difficult to find a nice set of 5cent chips to play with that are in the Paulson or higher end market. I currently use China clay Pharaohs and have no issue with them but never really see anyones micro stakes chips that are more standout and colorful.

Thanks to my man @Ben8257 that I met today he has me started in a new and honestly first journey to make a Horseshoe Cleveland set that I would like to make my new tourney set. But I seem to struggle finding Micro chips does anyone have this problem??

(Not looking to buy at this time.)

Fractional chips, in general, are hard to find and fetch a huge premium. And I'm talking about 25c chips. Lower? Wow, yeah, there aren't that many. Artichoke Joes is a popular 10c option, but they don't come up often and, when they do, it's like $4 / chip. 5c Paulsons? That's super rare!

Ben's awesome; he'll steer you in the right direction; you made a great first chip buddy!

Roll your own. :cool

Seriously. Find some solids you like, or cheaper chips with simple spots. Mill and label.

I’ve got a very expensive micro set that includes a nickel...and another small one thet I am working on.

Relabels are generally the only real option to make nickels. Quarter chips are out there but are quite rare depending on the set you're trying to build. Any old casino set is likely to have a low number of actual quarter chips out there that sell for hundreds of dollars per rack of 100 chips. Due to being priced out, lots (including me) find other chips and either label over the chips with unlaminated vinyl stickers from @Gear or @ABC Gifts and Awards and essentially make a custom chip. There's also the inlay replacement approach, but that's another rabbit hole.

Welcome!

This is what I did to relabel my entire Jack Detroit cash set. The nickels are originally $1 chips, the quarters $25 chips, the half dollars $2 chips from another casino, the dollars $100 chips, the $5's are $5's, and the $20's $500 chips from a different casino.

It's funny, in like 30 years are $1 casino chips going to be as rare as 10 cent chips are today? I mean, considering inflation, I can't see casinos using $1 chips in the future like they do today. Maybe we should be hoarding them now...

That’s an interesting thought and definitely makes me wonder if that will happen or not

That’s is quite impressive I may have to look into how to creat labels and make that process come to life. Lots to learn here

Well there is a great Best Micro Stakes Sets thread... but I always enjoy sharing mine again!! Lol

Both Paulson and BCC made versions of this FOC series for the home market and can be found!! Also there is a spotted BCC version and some sold today on the forum!! They were even avalible through Spinettis until I bought them all!

My favorite are the Artichoke spotted nickles... one of my favorite chips ever

LeAded Paulson THCs!!

But they are indeed very very limited on casinos that make Nickles!! Aj had 2 versions and even 2 versions of pennies

And when your friends k ow how much you love that chip... they even make you a cake!!

But as others have mentioned... if you want paulson nickles it is easier to just make them with relabels.

The other thing is why even need a nickle at all if it is tourney play... use a T5 that just says 5 and call it a nickle instead of a 5? Its 5 units not cents in tourney play anyways!!

Now who mills and labels I’d make the attempt at milling but certain circumstances with my home currently will not allow this. At least to use my tools

If you play both tourney and micro stakes cash, consider looking at a 2k tourney set, t5 base. When playing cash, each unit is a penny, so t5 = nickel, t25 = quarter, and t100 = $1. I'd recommend not using it for both on the same night for cash game security, but the flexibility is nice. Relabeling is always a great option too as $1, $5, and $25 chips are usually easy to come by and more affordable, sometimes $100s as well.

It is extremely difficult to find old clay fracs in quantity, whether inlaid or hot stamped. And when you can find them, they tend to be SUPER expensive because of rarity and demand.

You are much better off making your own. Find an existing chip (live or not) with colours and spot patterns that will work with your planned set. Count on doing a full inlay replacement or milling/labelling. At least you have a chance at acquiring what you need faster and possibly quite a bit cheaper.

This is a super underrated option. I like labels as much as the next guy, but they aren’t the same as the real deal. I know these aren’t Paulsons, but here’s what I’m using for micro-stakes:

Custom hot stamps.
If I had my choice they'd have been milled just a hair to take down the old HS before stamping, but they're still super cool! I'd love to get moar made one day

We tried that first, looks bad and stamps worse...this is the best and only way.

And with the work & time involved, don't think many will go this path (but i'm still glad I did).

@mtl mile end
Hotstamping was done by Meatboy (no chipper anymore) & Pasi (no chipper anymore) and I had the artwork & die made.
Chips were made about a year after PCA came to the scene
