I'm honestly wondering if all oversized CPC chips are the same height. MD-50 39mm chips are not even consistent within themselves. The scroll mold and a-mold oversized might be different thicknesses. They might not even be internally consistent.

Chip thickness variation is a fact of life with Burt Co./ASM/CPC chips. It varies between molds, colors, and diameters, and probably also varies between when/how/by-whom the base slug clay sheets were created/rolled, as well as differing production runs and corresponding seasonal temperatures. And likely changes as the molds wear out, or when the exact temperatures/pressures used during production vary.

Trying to create a single storage product that will fit all of those variables will only result in an ill-fitting rack when used for most applications (i.e., too big).

Indeed, I'm not trying to get my rack to fit all oversized chips, just the CPC's since they seem to be the most common. Since only 1 barrel of chips fit and the rest were all too tall, I know the racks need to be a bit bigger.

I would strongly disagree that CPC 44mm chips are the most common oversize chips, either among collectors or hobbyists. There are many, many more Paulson and Sun-Fly 43mm chips (all with pretty standard thickness) in circulation -- and more on the way, with two in-progress Sun-Fly group buys for 43mm chips.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to figure out what's the best size if I'm pre-making these rather than building them to spec.

I'd agree that Paulsons are going to be way more common that CPC. Either way great work and project.

Sure. Lots of 43mm casino chips in people's home sets: Dunes, Horseshoes (OH), Par-A-Dice, Aztar (IN), just to name a few.
And Horseshoes and Horseshoes . . .
I don't remember the exact quantities of the Cleveland oversized chips, but I bet it was over 20k. And then the Cincinnati's. There's lots of them.
Edit: Maybe less? That number seems high. But there's a lot of them.

I knew there were oversize Paulsons, I didn't realize there were lots and lots. Cool.

If nothing else the quantity of oversized Sun-Fly 43mm hybrid ceramics would probably blow the quantity of custom 44mm CPC chips out of the water, especially with the 2 current group buys.

Edit - never mind, this was covered several posts ago and I fail at reading entire threads.

That actually leaves me curious, I wonder how many total 44mm ASM/CPC chips have been made over the years.

I think the main point would be that all similarly-sized 43mm chips (Paulson, SF, etc.) combined probably outnumber 44mm chips overall.

I wonder how Matsui and Bud Jones oversized chips compare as well.

21 chips would be better than 19, you could always put a spacer in for the 21 stack, but you can't move the walls for the 19's
