Hi guys and girls,

I'm trying to decide on storage for my 400pc cash set and am almost ready to pull the pin on one of these 400 wooden carriers from Spinettis but since I'm in Aussie, I can't see it prior to buying, nor can I return it. The unit itself is cheap but postage will cost heaps so I want to make the right choice. Here it is:

Question is; has anyone seen one or own one? Are they of a reasonable quality? It's hard to tell from the photo.

Cheers,
Jeremy.

What made you choose this one?

They're reasonable quality, but not very practical. They're heavy, and the chips are hard to get in and out (short of turning it upside down).

Imho there are many far better storage options available.

Thanks mate. I appreciate the feedback.

I partly chose this because this storage will be for Pharaoh's (Chinese) and as you'll probably know, the 25c require a 69-70mm rack which I'm struggling to find in Australia. I would absolutely LOVE to just get a regular clear 400pc birdcage carrier (all my other chips are stored in 1000pc cages) but I've only found those at Spinettis and Casino4you for about $20 with shipping at about $60. I just can't bring myself to pay that for shipping for such a cheap unit.

Also, I'm struggling to find a 400pc carrier/storage full stop. Plus, I'm slightly obsessive-compulsive in that I would struggle to have just 400 chips in a 500 chip case etc. I'm a bit strange, like that.

We're stuck for choices down here in Aussie at times.

Check out my 400 chip in a 600 chip birdcage setup: http://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/cheap-birdcage-modification.6457/

Can you find these cheap chinese cases shipped directly rather than from the US?

The sensible thing to do is to just buy 100 more chips :).

I didn't know the China Clays were that thick that they require a 70mm rack. Those will be tough to find indeed. In that case I can see the need for other storage options.

What gives you trouble here?

I guess if you try to use these for 43mm chips, you might have problems...

I just find loading stacks vertically to be cumbersome. Chips tend to fly all over the place when you try to load or unload them. Then again, maybe I'm just a klutz :).

I've decided to stick with bird cages for all my chips. I'd love to get some 600 or 400 ones but the shipping rate from all who have them in stock is too high so I'm sticking with 1000 carriers (eBay with a great intl shipping rate) and just not filling them to the top. I actually kinda like it. Surprisingly, it's not affecting my O.C.D. having only 4 racks in a 1000 carrier and means I have room for expansion too :)

Thanks for all your input on the topic.

P.S. tray width isn't a big deal now either because it's only my Pharaoh's 25c chips which require a 70+mm tray and I already have enough wide trays to accommodate them. All my other chips fit a standard 68mm tray well enough with a cover.

Right, guess it's time to order some more chips..

Time to find some perfectly-sized boxes that look nice to fit in the top spaces to hold cards & accessories...

I'm even imagining a single box, the size of the whole top - and then cutting a slot in it for the handle to go through, with a channel in the middle to keep stuff from blocking the slot or getting bumped when it's inserted over the handle... black plastic probably better than clear, because the inside would probably be jumbled odds n ends...

Pretty happy to advise I've just noticed an Aussie eBay seller is selling 600 chip bird cages so I'm all set now! Just ordered one for a quality check and will grab another or two if it's all good :)

It's been pretty hard finding a 400 or 600 chip carrier down here! :p
