I am not sure what an appraisal has anything to do with a tree falling in the forest in China

Not much.... I remember when these came out. Then didn't they have to change the chip to Tangiers since it was a trademark knockoff?

I believe they sold for 89 or 99 for a 500 set. And I don't think they have gained value. I'd say if you get a Hundo for 500, your doing really well.

Wait, they're legitimately brass? What's the story behind these?
Yup. They are brass with plastic melted in. Super heavy. I think @pltrgyst knows about these a bit.

(I could be wrong, so take it as that) Either these were made and forced to go to a Tangiers theme, or they were made with the Tangiers theme and had to move to a WSOP theme. Basically, fancy dice chips.

Agree. 20 cents a chip is double what I would pay. Binion is misspelled, and there is nothing WSOP about these. If you find a sucker you can get over $100.

As I've posted previously:

'.... the first chips I bought with the intention of using them specifically for poker was these brass "Binyons [sic] WSOP 2005" monsters on eBay, from a company called "Best Bet Limited" in New York City:

Shortly thereafter, these chips got shut down by the WSOP, and they started producing them with the Tangiers theme. '

...and...

'These chips originally sold as 500 chip sets in very nice cases for $99.95 each from Best Bet in Brooklyn. I bought two at the time, to replace my dice chips. Live and learn!

(I still have at least one set, and both Best Bet cases.)

Then the "cease and desist" letter arrived from Binions, and these "Binyons" were immediately retooled as "Tangiers". '

In case anyone wonders if the casino corporations take these small instances seriously, it can get expensive. It didn't take long for Harrah's to climb all over Best Bet, in April 2005.

And IMO, these chips are an interesting little piece of poker chip history. :cool

That's awesome Larry thanks for digging up the case!! I have a sample set from eBay.
. Probably over paid... I believe it was around $2 each and I think these slugs actually weigh in around 17 - 18 grams... pretty much anyone that knows nothing about chips usually pick these out of sample stacks because of their weight... I believe to the right person they have some value... personally I would say $.25 - $.35 a chip shouldn't be a problem to find a buyer! Fellow Chipper Ben

I think I threw away all the worthless $10 chips when we moved to Florida!

There actually is some demand for the $500 (and to a lesser extent, the $100) since they were made in very small quantity...

Really going to hurt the OP’s average profit margin :(
I'm expecting him to come back with... "LISTEN YOU IDIOT. I SPENT .056 CENTS PER CHIP AND SOLD THEM FOR .40 PER CHIP SO I MADE MORE MONEY THEN YOU'LL MAKE NEXT WEEK AT THE GAS STATION.

NOW, GIVE ME A QUOTE ON THESE CHIPS, YOU LOSERS."

Were they black cases with red lining? I have a case from Best Bet. Now I'm wondering if they sold me the case that originally had these chips in it.
