20 vs 25 chips for low stakes (1 Viewer)

I have $20s in my cash set just because I thought the color was better. Cashing in or out seems no different to me either way...$100 is divisible by both $20 and $25. And Its not like someone buys in with $20 and you’re gonna give them a single $20 chip...you’re gonna give them 5s or 1s.

The edge probably goes to $25 just because that’s what folks are more familiar with from casinos

I always look at how the chips align with each other - whenever someone gets too many chips in front of them they want to change some out. Any chip in your set should be easily changeable with another chip 2 denominations up. 20 quarters get a 5, and 20 singles makes you use a $20 chip :)
^ This. If you are playing higher stakes, where the 20/25 is getting a lot of play and there is a possibility of 500s being a thing (I speak theoretically, I don't/won't play that high) then using 25s may make more sense as the barrel/chip ratio of 25 and 500 is even. By this logic (again, theoretically) a $25 chip wouldnt make sense any lower than $5/$5.

Also, if you plan on having players that play at casinos often, there is a good chance they will be more used to 25s.

Well, if someone gave me $25 chips in a cash game I would throw them across the room.

Then sheepishly pick them up, apologize to everyone, feel ridiculous the rest of the night and worry about being invited back. I’m not an idiot. Those chips represent $25, im not going to leave those just sitting on the floor on the other side of the room...

I've often thought that it would be better to use $25 chips and get the United States to change it's currency to $1, $5, $25, $100, but since that isn't happening any time soon, $20 chips, I guess.

I was always a nit about wanting to use $25 chips instead of $20s for realism, even when we used to play small stakes cash games with $20-$40 buyins. Now, I think between small stakes buy-ins and board games, $20s are probably the best increment for cash games, just for ease of use alone.

Echo what has already been mentioned in a couple of replies..........$20 for cash and $25 for tournament is the way to go.
