Hey all. Not sure where to start so I apologize if this comes off as rambling.

Some background:

As we all love chips and MOAR CHIPES are better, I've dreamt of having a ridiculously large, one table, Big One For One Drop sized chip set for 8 players. Just like they did in the inaugural Big One tourney. Paulsons prefered of course! To that end, a few years back I amassed enough hot stamped solids with close matching colors for the denoms I would need to make it a reality, then planned to label them. For those who don't know, the starting stacks are/were 50-1k/50-5k/28-25k/20-100k. Without a way to mill the hot stamps out of existence, it proved to be too daunting of a task so I sold the chips, but the dream never died. China Clays are always an option but I wanted compression clay of course, even if I didn't really have the money for them.

Fast forward to today:

While working out a deal with @kk405(thanks!)for his large set of Desert Palms CCs to work on my One Drop set, I found out that I had won @Chbyfngr's(thanks!)Grand Victoria secondaries raffle. Holy eff! I could not believe my luck.

Grand Victoria chips hold a special place in my heart, as they we're the chips currently available when I got my start in the chipping world. I bought some used primaries and eventually acquired a small set of secondaries that I hoped to expand upon. Picked up some GV cards, casino dice, a button from the OG GB on the blue wall, a limited edition GV coin to use as a card protector, and was on the verge of picking up a set of GV beer and shot glasses too. These were going to be my "one set to rule them all" so to speak. Alas, things didn't work out and I ended up selling all my chip sets.

So, now I have a second chance at my GV set. (y)

As of now, the set consists of 300-1s/400-5s/200-25s/100-100s for a total of 1000 chips. Scaling down form 1k/5k/25k/100k, I would need to add one rack of 1s, 2 barrels of 25s and 3 barrels-one rack of 100s for One Drop numbers. That's an insane number of chips on the table for a STT, but it would sure look pretty. Watching new episodes of Poker After Dark and seeing all the chips on the table pushes me towards making it happen, but I don't have a ton of disposable income as I live in the most expensive city in the U.S. Don't get me wrong, I live very comfortably. I just don't have enough disposable income to spend $300-$500 on a rack of chips, especially as I have no home game to speak of. I suppose I could be a good Murican and put all my sweet, sweet chipes on credit cards and deal with it later? Would rather not.

So, we finally get down to the nitty gritty. Here are the options I'm considering:

1)Say to hell with it, keep a small tourney set of the Desert Palms, sell most of them to help fund expansion of the GVs into a large tourney set using relabeled chips as $500/$1000 denoms as I could never afford them outright.

2)Keeping a micro stakes cash set of the Desert Palms and building my ultimate tourney set. This would require me buying/trading/relabeling some of the DPs, but ain't nobody got time for that when I have a Paulson set to build lol.

3)Splitting the GVs into a cash set and a tourney set. Cash set would use all the 1s and relabeling for some nickels and quarters. Could sell 2 racks of 5s, use the the denoms from 5 and up to make a flexible tournament set. Possibly some relabeling there too, and keep a small DP tourney set. Because, well, Paulson cash set. I could add another rack of 1s, split them into the 2 sets and run a half stack One Drop tournament and still have tons of chips on the table if I go this route. More cost effective and would need less chips to expand this option.

I will be keeping some Desert Palms regardless. The tourney set would be smaller than the cash set, so I'd have more to sell(less work too)and put towards the GVs, although the difference would be minimal. I would like to have a cash set eventually too whether CCs, compression clays, or maybe some GOCC ceramics.

400-1s
400-5s
240-25s
200(240?)-100s
60-500s(relabel)
180-1000(relabel)

For my ultimate, flexible, possibly "all time" Paulson tournament set.

W in the hell WYD?

Edit:until both of these sets come in, I currently own 0 sets.

4) Keep both sets as-is, and buy a new Paulson cash set in the upcoming Chip Room sale. Followed shortly afterwards by purchasing an epic Paulson THC-mold set with huge Big Drop quantities. Ultimately sell the china clays and put together two TRK sets to replace them.

I'll leave steps #5-#20 to your imagination, or you search around CT and PCF for my chip set history.

And you're welcome. (y)

Looking to both (1) keep the GVs 'cause you like 'em and (2) have a stupid-huge, ridiculously over-the-top tourney set without going to the poor house?

Keep the bulk of the GVs, though you could consider selling the 100 and maybe some 5. Decide if you can live with 25 playing as a quarter (and perhaps 5 as nickels). If so, awesome cash set, check. If not, go to bigger stakes, right? Pay reasonable amounts to add on to DP and get aforementioned outrageous tourney set with China clays. Monster tourney set, check. Worried that the Paulsons are way better? Play more cash.

Doesn't sound like it's the right path for you, but that was what I thought ...

I'm sure if he follows your advice he won't be the first to do that search.
Just sayin.

Hmmm, yeah I don't think I could use upper denom Paulsons for micro cash. Might not bother me with China Clays though.

2 options I forgot to mention;

1) picking up relabel chips from Chip Room and/or eBay for nickels/quarters/five hundos/thousands

OR

Asking a member to harvest 2 racks of these for me

Obvious tie in with the set and I have an idea for what I'd want to use as my nickel relabel. Plus other chips from the Chip Room. I have this stack coming my way soon so I can check them out.

Saw a set of 500 on eBay from @Apache Cost a cool grand.

I can’t drop that kind of change atm but they are some sweet looking chips

The set for sale on eBay is for the primary Grand Victoria chips, which happen to be the set that started me on my chipping journey. The set I have incoming are the Grand Victoria secondary chips pictured here:

I’d likely never own a minty secondary set if it wasn’t for some run good in winning that raffle. :D
