Trip has changed. Now it's just guys, and we're booking flights/rooms later tonight.

Now, I have different criteria.

Nice Poker Room
Center Strip
Nice Rooms
$100/night ish

I've heard so many conflicting stories about various hotels... Looking for more suggestions/recommendations.

Harras?
Bally's?
Flamingo?
Etc...

Not sure the Flamingo poker room is nice but, center of the action and walking distance to Aria, Bellagio, and the rest. When I stayed the GO rooms were very nice.

I'm a Flamingo guy. Great location (as mentioned above). The rooms aren't anything special, but they have a bed, a shower, a toilet, and a sink. Check, check, check, and check. Poker room is "meh" IMO but the limit games with their blue $1 chips are pretty fun. If you're looking for over-the-top frills it's probably not for you.

We've had good luck booking through hotels.com or vegas.com. Obviously YMMV.

Thoughts on Harrah's?
Flamingo is on the list to consider!

Bottom line is your choice of Hotel is not going to make or break your trip. It's Vegas for a Vegas Virgin... you're going to have an amazing time. Pretty much the entire strip except Aria, Bellagio, Caesars, Venetian will be in your price range.

Flamingo is center/center... everything you may want to see is within walking distance. Book it.

Flamingo > Ballys > Harrah's

I've stayed in each, and gravitate most often toward Bally's. Not as nice as Flamingo, but cheaper. It also affords the shortest trip to Ellis Island (cheap "off the menu" dinner), to Battista's (all the wine you can drink for free), and a party store for bottled water (more important in the summer than winter).

Battista's also earns my recommendation for a guy's trip. Time has passed this place right by, and it remains the same as it was in the 1970s. Think Buca Di Beppo, with unlimited free wine. The more you drink, the better this place gets.

What is the name of the Place they just got finished redoing next to the flamingo and across the street from Bally's? Obviously no clue about it but, could make your list as a new place to stay.

The Cromwell... the old Barbary Coast. Was my place of employment for a number of years, wouldn't stay there because whatever it is it's just not the same.

I hear it's pricey

We we booked the flamingo, but if you have the codes, I'd take them, and rebook, cancel the other rooms my buddy booked.

TR? I tested. What is this?

Signing up for the loyalty card is a good idea. It is required if you intend to play in any tournament, and in cash games it will earn you enough credits to buy you lunch after 4 hours ($2/hour). Plus it gets you on the mailing offer list. At one time having the card would result in the resort fees being waived (~$20/night value). Alas, they've hiked the fee to $25 and only waive the fee for big spenders :(

I've stayed at the Flamingo the last few years and like it....one of the last "old school" strip casinos. Poker room is OK, I like the $2-4 limit game....you can get trashed and not worry about losing a lot of money fast. Also have $1-2 NL tables. They did have some $5 BJ tables when I was there in January. I'm staying there second week of January this coming year. Definitely get a TR Rewards card, after my first year they would comp my room the following year until last year when they added an $18 resort fee, now it's up to $25 a nite (so my free room costs $25/night plus taxes, but still not bad. Of course, I'm there during slow times so they are willing to comp me).
The nearby remodeled Linq area is pretty nice.
Let us know how it goes.

Has anyone stayed at the Paris? I heard it was good for discounts too.
I stayed there several years ago with my wife and found it to be pretty nice, but I don't have any recent info about rates or room quality.

I just went last month and stayed at Bally's. The room was clean but nothing fancy, and the property is in a good mid-Strip location. They have a poker room but I was underwhelmed. I much prefer making the 10 minute walk to Bellagio or Caesar's.
