This is my very first purchase besides samples. So for a couple hours with Dawn, hot water and a magic eraser turned out like this.

Tell me what you guys think.

Now I can't stop thinking about what colors would look good next to these for my future quarters and nickels....
Im thinking a pink of some sort.

Very nice! Did you oil? They will probably pop even more with a light oiling.

That must have taken awhile to clean. You'll get into an ultrasonic cleaner sooner or later :)

It did take a bit of time and when i finished i was happy to be done lol.

I'll oil them tomorrow I have a day off and post a pic up. Im sure they will pop all oiled up!

After washing a couple racks by hand I definitely want to look into an ultrasonic

Oil VERY sparingly and only the rolling edge. Hold a barrel and wipe with a paper towel that has a small bit of oil. None on the faces—the edge oil will seep in.

Just to chime in, with everything set up, the 2 racks would have taken about 8-10 minutes in the ultrasonic. Of course, time taken for setup and placing chips out to dry. It takes me about an hour and a half for 1000 chips (including prep time).

I oiled faces and edges, and had zero seep into the label. Also used a very little amount oil (maybe 1-2 oz for 1000 chips), roughly avoided the label (but was not meticulous), but had zero issues. FDL mold, 1 1/16" label if that makes a difference.

I have, yes, but mostly older ones. I'm going to do another batch of several hundred ASMs at the tail end of next week, which should include newer ones in better condition. Will report results if interested.

What cleaning agent have you used with the ASMs? I know I have damaged TRK large crowns and BurtCo Horseshu molds in the ultrasonic using fake tsp (sodium metasilicate)

I'm using sodium metasilicate also. 98% of the time I have no problems at all. The strangest thing is that for some reason, GREEN coloured chips seem to be affected the most. My motto is test, test, test. Sure signs of incompatibility with your cleaning agent is colour leaking out immediately in the detergent bath (you can only tell when the it is clear/clean, not after it looks like mud after several hundred dirty chips), or when you feel tackiness/grittiness after patting them dry. Keeping the cleaning time down to 30-45 seconds can also help, but might still cause some damage.

Note: I've even lost a bit of colour from a Paulson green once, even though I can usually leave a Paulson in the ultrasonic for 20 minutes if necessary.

At what point is the magic eraser used before or after the brushing, did you find that it was abrasive at all on the chips? The reason I ask is that I recall from automotive detailing experience that some recommend not to use a magic eraser on leather interiors due to the abrasive nature of the product. Then again, I'm assuming Paulson chips are fragile and this would in some way accelerate wear?

i’m not an expert, but i know it will take crosshatching off of near mint paulsons if you’re not careful:sick:

NEVER use Sodium Metasillicate/Fake TSP or real TSP on ASMs, I've experimented on a few older chips and it was visibly melting the mold texture off the chips after 60seconds in an ultrasonic, results seemed similar across blue, white and red. I did have limited success in using an ultrasonic with oxi clean though and asms I think.

Agreed, for ASM/CPC I have used simple green in the ultrasonic.
