More Rake is Better (1 Viewer)

If this was really Doug Polk speaking out against rake, it would be pretty cool. But I'm pretty sure it's just Doug Polk fucking with Daniel Negreanu, and to me, that just makes Polk look like a wanker. It might be a generational thing - he's been taking a lot of shots at Helmuth lately too - maybe I'm just annoyed at this younger guy taking shots at the poker heroes of my generations. But there's just no need for it.
Doug is on very good terms with Phil Hellmuth. He’s made several videos with Phil and I encourage you to watch them. His 3am hangout in Philadelphia with Phil was hilarious and a more recent 90 minute podcast was entertaining and informative. I used to be a big Dnegs fan and don’t begrudge him his success on both the felt and in the online industry. Having his girlfriend say “Fuck the pros” was really weak, borderline cowardly. His video response to criticism was equally weak, having a buddy/ yes man sitting next to him to bolster his case. Bad look. Honestly, it would have been better if I’d never watched his many videos. I enjoy Dnegs when he’s playing poker and much less in the role of philosopher and life coach. We’ll agree to disagree. The billboard was a master stroke in the art of trolling, either way. GL in your games.

Strongly disagree. Of course there is a need for it. I don't particularly like DP but the point he is making is both correct and hilarious.

Daniel just defends whatever Poker Stars does including increasing rake. Daniel doesn't just get a pass on saying stupid stuff because he is a poker legend. If DP was making fun of Daniel being bald or having glasses then that would be mean and uncalled for. As it is I think Doug is making a very legitimate point in a funny way.

And in regards to Helmuth...I am pretty sure everyone in the poker world longer than 5 mins has taken shots at Phil and generally he deserves it. Still Phil is and was a good player but he deserves all the flack he gets.

I've actually seen both of those, which makes the shots at Helmuth more puzzling to me. I think Polk is just a douche who's not beyond any cheap shots.
But yeah, we can agree to disagree.
Maybe we won't even have to, at least for a while. Doug is pursuing some other ventures, at which he's bound to fail, for lack of talent. Somebody should tell him, hey doug, remember how long you struggled to become a great poker player? It takes at least twice as long to become good at comedy, and likely requires more natural talent.

Yeah I heard he wants to start a comedy channel on youtube?? Good luck with that Doug.

Right? People watched his poker blogs because 1 - he's a great player, 2 - he has good, valuable insight, and 3 - he's mildly amusing. But that's mildly amusing FOR A POKER PLAYER. In the world of comedy entertainment, he's pretty much an unfunny douche. So far though. I understand he started off as a lousy poker player, so maybe he can improve his comedy chops like he improved his poker game. Maybe not.

He's started a news channel, kind of like Philly D but more Dougified. I personally enjoy his style of reporting/comedy. Probably because we are of the same generation and have similar interests (poker, tech, video games, etc). I don't think he's trying to be a stand up comedian or anything.

I watched a few episodes of teh Dan Polk Youtubez around the time he began the bankroll challenge, and remember he was talking about doing a different channel for variety stuff.

I don't have the interest level (or attention span for Vlogs/Twitch) to keep up with all that, but it's cool to hear he got something going.

I personally like Doug. I thought he was a douche at first but he's actually pretty genuine. I find him amusing, likely for the same reason @v1pe does. Same generation, interests, etc.

I also enjoy his hand analysis videos. He says he wants to take shots at other things for the fun and challenge. I found his "news" videos pretty amusing. Basically just him commentating on current headlines. A bit vloggish with his personal thoughts on matters.

I enjoy his needling Negreanu and giving him grief over the more rake is better remarks.

If he's having fun, so be it. Kudos to him for having the guts to try stand up too. And not just try it, but post it online for the internet to do it's thing.

He is obviously really smart but the combination of getting rich and confident in the last few years has turned him into a douche imo. He is an awkward guy that doesn't realize how he comes across.

The problem with content creation is you run out of material and then have to start making more and more contrived narratives. Every video has to be "HUGE CONTROVERSY" or "MAJOR DRAMA"...

He should just stick to making strategy videos because that is what he is good at. He is just trying way to hard right now and it is painful to watch. The sad thing is I think he really was/is a nice guy but he puts on this media persona to build his brand.
