Every time I stop in for 2/4 Limit at Silver Sevens, I cringe at the state of their $1's. Between California and Nevada, I have yet to find chips in worse condition than these. Introduced in 2013, I would not be surprised if they have not seen any type of cleaning since the day they hit the casino floor. The woman at the cage nearly laughed when I asked if they had any new or clean chips in the back!

I've been using their chips personally for a while but I decided to get another rack while I was in town yesterday because I'm sure somebody on the forum can find a good use for them and it would be fun to see before and after pictures.

My process is pretty simple- five chips in a warm dish soap bath for a few minutes. One chip and one side at a time I took an old toothbrush to every nook and cranny. Occasionally a toothpick was necessary to get particularly tough grime out. Despite how terribly these chips have been cared for, a simple cleaning reveals one of my favorite live $1 chips out there! I'm not too picky but maybe 1 chip out of every 20 has a noticeable flea bite, which I think is pretty good considering there has not been new chips in circulation for years.

If you have encountered dirtier chips than these, throw up a picture!

What kinda dish soap you use and how long do you let sit? And warm meaning u can leave ur hand in there

I used Dawn erasing foam today but I'd think that any dish washing soap would yield the same results. The warm (you can put your hand in it) water alone loosens up the grime enough for the tooth brush to take everything off. Based on what I have read in chip maintenance, I have not left the chips in the water for more than two or three minutes as I don't want to damage the inlay. I do have an extra few chips laying around- maybe I'll leave one in water overnight to see if any damage occurs.

As far as ultrasonic cleaners go, I've read on here that the cheap Amazon ones are a waste of money, and I can't justify a $200-300 machine to clean a couple of racks.

Wow those are really gross. I’m not sure I’d be comfortable playing with chips that dirty.

Do they not ever clean the chips at casinos?

I'd assume most of the casino's on the strip clean their chips as I have not encountered anything like these at the big name joints.
Silver Seven's is off-strip and attracts a...wide range?...of clientele. The 2/4 limit game that gets going on the poker table there is probably the softest poker I've played in Nevada and the only reason I venture in. I wash my hands at least once an hour if I am playing here.

When @TheChipRoom brought the Horseshoe Cleveland chips to market last year, they were all that dirty, and those chips had been in play for less than three years. I don’t believe I’d play in a casino with chips that filthy. Even the $500’s looked like that. Can you imagine having to play with $500s that stick together because of the grime?
Crazy

Didn’t personally see the horseshoes, but I bought a bunch of pca primaries years back when the chiproom released them. Those things were worn down and grimey, but even they weren’t as bad as those silver sevens. I remember people saying that pca boat was pretty grubby too.

It’s too grim to think about. I don’t even like seeing discoloured chips in my stacks at the casino and make a point of using them straight away for bets.

Ha. I know the feeling. And then when I make the bet I’m thinking “wait, am I making this bet, hoping to lose these chips?”

One thing I noticed about cleaning. If they are super dirty, sticky, obviously they don't handle good. But sometimes you clean your chips (with light dirt), (can't think of a specific example), and then if they are pretty worn, they handle poorly, (slippery). That little bit of dirt on them kept them from being slippery. Just an observation. I will still clean my chips, but hate it when they don't handle as well after cleaning, (it's rare)

Chips used at the WSOP were also disgusting, even for a casino. It didn't help when during restroom breaks people were taking massive shits and walking straight out of the restroom - bypassing the sink entirely.

Those chips look really great. Makes me want to snag some!

The pics do not do the pink spot justice, it really pops. If you ever want to pull the trigger, let me know- I make my way to Sin City about once a month. I hope to haul back more of these and see if I can't find any of the last spotted Flamingo birds.

Damn damn, those are some pretty $1s when they're cleaned up! Those would be a harvest priority for me!

Once you get those cleaned up, they sure are pretty!!!
Just picked up a couple racks of Horseshoe Cinci 1s and they too were easily that dirty… took me 5 hours to clean the first 100 alone!
(not the dirtiest of the bunch, but the only "before/after" pic I have)

you're assuming that many more racks of casino used chips are not going to pass through your hands in the future :)

Yes, I read through that thread as well, but just like @bradiggy, I just can't justify the cost… I'd rather have $200 available for more chips! My little bit of $$ is worth more than my time… for now! lol

It’s beyond me why these casinos don’t invest in more frequent/any chip cleaning..I’ve seen some industrial type cleaning units but they don’t look very efficient. A business opportunity perhaps

Agreed! Was at Hollywood, here in Columbus, a few weeks back and those chips were so dirty I really didn't even want to touch them.

Just found a pic on my phone. I didn’t take this picture, but I can confirm that all the $500’s I handled and saw from this sale, were in this condition.
And again, how does this happen? I can see it with $1.00s, but $500’s??

I picked through a bunch of nasty dollars for my Horseshoe Tunica souvenir last week - this is the sharpest, cleanest one I was able to find.

If I was a few years older and semi retired this would be a fun business idea.

Love the Tunica 1. I gotta say cleaning THCs by hand is very time consuming, along the lines of what @Meathooke says. I've found RHC quicker though. If casinos don't clean their chips, do they simply get rid and buy new stock to replace? Must be deemed as cost effective if that's the case..

Honestly it seems like many places simply don't do anything. Chips get dirty and stay that way, not leaving circulation until they're broken or worn out.
