ABC Gifts and Awards Acquiring PGI / Palm Imports (1 Viewer)

Great news. Time for a name change too.
When I was considering ordering custom ceramics and I heard the available options, I immediately dismissed your company because I wanted to order poker chips from a poker chip company, not some Things Remembered sounding jack of all trades company. Yes, its stupid to make a judgement like that based only on a company name, but if I did it, I'm sure others have.

Ditto

Maybe time to separate the two. Keep ABC as is but create a Casino brand!

Thanks for all the messages! This is a very exciting time for us. The purchase has been nearly 6 months in the making...finally at the finish line.

@upNdown and @EventHorizonVII - I've pondered changing names for years, but for various reasons we've stuck with ABC Gifts and Awards. We may end up with a different name at some point, but not anytime soon. I've seen lots of businesses with cool poker names come and go over the last 14 years. We've even acquired some of them. I'm sure we've lost some sales because of the name, but I doubt that anyone who has seen our work, or who has worked with us in the past cares what the name of our business is. ;)

Sending you a case of these for the compression equipment.

It's a start!

I had a similar experience the first time I ever purchased suited speed cloth and foam on-line.
How can a company called Your Auto Trim know anything about poker stuff?

Well, the down side is that I'm losing my local chip guy. I've always picked up my PGI orders in person, and Joe always had a few minutes to chat. I got a thorough tour of the facility in the middle of the work day on one of my first visits, and one of his staff met me halfway when I drove out to replace a birdcage that had been damaged in shipping. I know that Joe's relationship with this community had a few bumps here and there, but my dealings with him and the rest of the PGI staff were never anything but good.

The up side is that I can't think of a better member of our community to take over than Gene. While I've never ordered custom chips from ABC, I've ordered several of his stock items and a dozen custom printed coffee mugs that to this day (nearly nine years later) still see regular use and look like the day I bought them. Every time we've communicated, he's been nothing but helpful and friendly.

Congrats, Gene! I'm looking forward to seeing what ABC 2.0 will be offering in the near future.

I think towards the end the PGI guys were ready for retirement. I've ordered two things from PGI. The first thing I got from them was sent very quickly and was satisfied with it. The second Item I ordered a few months later and I never got it. I called the office and spoke to Joe two times and got assurances that they would work on getting me my Item, but I never got a response after that and could never get anyone again on the Phone or any responses via Email. The Item was only about $10 shipped so I gave up on it and considered it a loss especially after I read they were trying to sell the business. I'm glad they sold it to Gene and ABC. Every time I have ordered stock items from ABC I get my items shipped quickly and I get a quick response if I have an inquiry.

Shhhh, "abc awards" gets past the filter at work, "poker chip forum" does not.

*Typed on my phone.

Regarding the clay equipment and molds...the reality is that when I went to Florida and spent almost a week going over everything, I didn't even get into details about the clay equipment and molds. There are a lot of molds for various chip types. We'll see how quickly we can get up and running with everything else before we get into learning how to run the clay equipment.

I, for one, would want to give Gene and his crew all the time that they need to learn the ins and outs of the compression clay manufacture. We all know that it is an intensive hands-on process, and would take some trial and error to tweak to an efficient system. Best of luck and best of business to you!

Feel free to send me any mistakes :)

Labels won't be available until all of the equipment is here. We do have almost the same equipment, but the Palm workflow for labels is much more efficient. This part will be up and running quickly after it arrives.

Thanks,
Gene

Was just getting ready to email Joe for a set of labels. Surprise. Can't wait until you are up and running.
