Sitting Out
I finally placed the order after returning from vacation last week. Many thanks to those who helped me select the denominations and counts, and corrected my misuse of the terms custom vs. re-label. I ordered these on Monday, and received a shipping confirmation notice on Wednesday that they had shipped and would arrive the next day. My work day couldn’t get over fast enough that day!
They were packed extremely well, rolls of 25 packed in plastic bags and surrounded by newspapers on all sides in a sturdy box:
There is a review on the Apache website from 2 years ago (https://www.apachepokerchips.com/product/majestic-poker-chips/ ) that talks about a residue on the chips. I had the same thing on these, having read the review in advance I wasn’t worried about it. I did clean and oil a few of the chips and they turned out great so I’m doing that to the rest of them now. Don’t see this is an issue. YMMV as to whether or not they need oiling, but with the residue I’d say they at least need a good cleaning.
However, there is an odd smell coming from the chips, after all the packaging was removed and they were stacked on my desk you could smell it as you entered the room. Not overpowering, but definitely noticeable. It could be from the manufacturing process as well, as the sample set I bought a few months ago didn’t have that (or the aforementioned residue). Oiling them did lessen the smell, but not completely remove it. Is this normal? Maybe they just need to air out a bit?
So now I’m getting ready to label them. I’ve been playing with a couple of different designs, and will probably continue to do so before I decide on a final design and reach out to Gear. I am a bit limited in what I can do based on the program I use and the fact that I’m a programmer and not a graphic artist. For now these are the ones I am currently thinking about, although I’d go through a lot of black ink on the top two. Any thoughts?:
While playing with different label designs I couldn’t resist creating these. I had to take a few liberties as the label size is smaller than what they use in real life. I highly doubt Gear would be able to do these as Caesar’s Entertainment wouldn’t be too happy about it; something about copyrighted logos and such. But it was fun to do them, and they do look cool on the Majestic chips.
Can't wait to get these on the felt!!!
