Also...

Hello everyone,

So I received news from my manufacturer that they did an in depth test on the sample decks that I shipped back. It did take a bit longer than expected as they are in the middle of a big production run currently. I flagged the lighter hue and darker hue cards so that they could see clearly the issues that were present and apparent especially in the red decks, but also the blue. They had a special team to look them over, but said they could not see the anomalies presented to them.

I am disappointed to say the least in this response, so I invite you to tell your experiences (when were issues noticed, by you or another player, share images, a short video, etc.) to Modiano, who produced the cards. Use the first email on their contact page, here: http://www.modiano.it/eng/contatti.html. Use the subject line of Issues with Bridge/Jumbo Index Cards produced for Desjgn. Be candid but polite. It is possible to express our feelings of disappointment without being mean and angry. Let’s see what their response will be. If they still feel that there is no issue, then I will have the cards reprinted and produced elsewhere at my expense.

Thank you everyone. I think if they hear from many of you that they will see that it is a pretty big concern and not just think that it is only coming from me. Include examples of the blue decks as well, even though the reds are far more apparent.

Did not participate in the initial group buy, but those cards look amazing - I will be a customer for a set-up when this issue is corrected! I sent the email below. Maybe they will start to fix the mistake when they realize it is going beyond just people who bought decks originally?

"I first want to mention that Modiano has been my go-to for playing cards in the past. I really love the Platinum Acetate cards for my home card games.

Unfortunately I will no longer be a customer. Many of my friends participated in a Kickstarter campaign for a playing card designed by DeJgn. They chose Modiano to print their cards and the quality control was terrible - many of the cards are easily distinguishable by a slightly lighter back color. While I understand that this may happen during the printing process, the decision not to immediately reprint the decks from Modiano in order to correct the mistake is egregious. I hope you will correct this issue in an attempt to regain some trust from playing card enthusiasts."

Good luck Jason!

Email sent.

I'll probably pony up ~$2/per setup once things are final.

I also sold the following:
4 setups to @Ben and @suited67 (4 each)
2 setups to @image and @pedrofisk (2 each)
2 setups to a local friend, non-PCFer

And I bought 2 setups from @pokerplayingpisces so he could be done with the issue.

So: Bought 30 - 14 + 2 = 18 setups still in my possession

Everyone here should send Modiano an email saying they won't be buying their cards anymore nor recommending them to anyone due to the @desjgn cards printing issue and not fixing it. If they have a FB or Twitter page, start posting about it there too.

What's the email?

Likewise I will be donating once everything is resolved. At this time though I'm financially in pretty deep. Like justsomedude though, as a small business owner this is not something I want Desjgn to have to lose money on due to Modiano's mistake.

Second This Motion!!!
Sending e-mail now!!!

Everyone here should do the same!!!
One of the only things that make people accountable for their mistakes in these situations is when it hits them in the pocket book!!!!

just sent to modiano and the 3 emails give in a previous post...
Hope everyone bombards them with something similar!!!
@desjgn ....Jason, Hope all works out in the end for you in this unfortunate matter!!!

To whom it may Concern,

Just wanted to drop a friendly but serious e-mail to let you guys & gals know that I have used your cards for years and have enjoyed them immensely... Unfortunately due to a decision you have recently made to NOT correct a printing issue with the above vendor I will have to destroy all the decks I currently own and Never Make another purchase of modiano cards again... I can't bring it upon myself to do business with a dishonest company that can't admit and correct their mistakes. I only hope that you will be receiving many more e-mails regarding this issue and hopefully you guys will step up to the plate like a respectable company should do and correct your mistakes made here!!!
Luckily there are plenty of other reputable card companies out there for our HUGE "Honorable" Group of Card Loving Poker Players to fall back on for "all" of our future Card & Product purchases!!! I have learned in my business experiences that the only way to get a point across is to affect their year end profits and although my small amount of purchases you may not notice, I can only hope that others will join in and STOP purchasing your products and maybe then you will see a fall in year end profits, then next time you decide to take the easy way out you will think twice and make the correct decision to FIX the Problem instead of walk away because you fell like your to big to Fail...!!!

BTW...this message will be posted on every website I'm affiliated with as I'm sure others will do from our group. Good luck with any Hopeful Bonuses, Salary Increases, Etc. if you continue down this Dirty Path of Unacceptable Product Manufacturing!!!

Best Wishes &
Very Sincerely,
Troy Arnold

If you want to make an impression on Modiano, a stern email is not going to do the trick. At least the first hundred such emails did not seem to make any impression.

Public shaming, public denigration of their products, complaints to / through their distribution networks - - - things like that ***might*** make an impression. I do not know how big a deal retail sales are for Modiano. I do not know if the USA is a major retail market for them either. Could be that Modiano produces many of the alternative products someone might buy instead of Modiano labeled cards, just like our specific case with Desjgn cards.

Bottom line is we will need to do better homework and vent our concerns in more public ways to make much of an impression on the company -=- DrStrange

PS and if you search for preexisting reviews of their playing cards, you will see there is a sizable body of good reviews out there mostly older to be sure. A few dozen snarky buyer comments aren't going to do the trick either.

Does anybody know of any casinos who ard currently using their cards? Perhaps an email to the casinos explaining our concern for quality control with our situation might do something. Modiano would have to be cc'd of course. Just a thought.

Another good idea!

I’m most surprised with all the people who are saying that they used to like modiano. I’ve tried a lot of plastic cards, and I considered Modianos to be minimally acceptable. I have to admit I’ve never tried the platinum acetates. But those modiano “poker” cards that come in like 10 different colors? Just barely okay. That company can suck it.

^ Agreed. After sampling Guild, Fournier, Piatnik, Bicycle Prestige, even Cartamundi - I hadn't any plans to buy any more Modianos anyway.

@DrStrange and @Potsie1 make some excellent points. The most impact will probably be realized by convincing casinos who buy Modiano that the risk of poor QC and absent CS makes it worth their while to consider other options.

The difficulty becomes: I'm certain Modiano would take a different stance if the same issue arose with a large corporate account, and the casinos know this.

But Modiano feels that screwing over a small business owner and literally endangering his livelihood carries minimal risk to their bottom line.

Because let's be clear: They know damn well there's a real problem with the cards printed for Desjgn.

F*^king infuriating.

What a great bunch of people on PCF here. Didn’t order any but sent a few bucks to help in anyway. Btw, looking for a classic bridge size non-jumbo index from Djsign. Send me a pm if you have one to sell.

Thanks,

Jimmy

Not one reply to any of my emails to the vendor who shall not be named. Kind of surprised to be honest.

Can we get this over $1,000 ????

$20 donation sent and the below email sent:

Hello,

I have been a customer of Modiano in the past, purchasing your Platinum Acetate set of cards and listing them as my all-time favorite cards that I have ever personally used.

However I was recently disappointed to learn of an incident that affected a group buy run by Desjgn where Modiano was selected as the manufacturer of custom sets of cards.

The community it impacted is made up of close-knit poker enthusiasts that detected an imperfection in the run of cards that rendered them unusable due to certain backings giving away the cards face value.

I have the pleasure of knowing many of them personally, and the level of generosity shown by this group of people from all across the world never ceases to amaze me.

The actions of your company in not making this situation right with Desjgn has resulted in a significant level of surprise and sadness that Modiano isn't the type of company we thought it was.

There is still time and I hope you will reconsider your stance on this matter and work with Desjgn to make it right and regain the trust of this fan and customer base.

Sincerely,

Anthony J Martino
