Wife is asking me what I want for Christmas and I would like a couple of new poker books. I know there is a lot of online content, but I need a book or two I can read on a cruise. Looking for recommendations.

Books I have: (These were all purchased years ago)

Small stakes hold'em - winning big with expert play (Miller, Sklansky, Malmuth)
Hold'em poker - for advanced players (Sklansky, Malmuth)
The Theory of Poker (Sklansky)
No Limit Hold'em - Theory and Practice (Sklansky, Miller)
Phil Gordon's Little Blue Book
Doyle Brunson - Poker Wisdom of a champion (My favorite book - I enjoyed the stories and history of poker.)

I've been playing Hold'em tournaments for 10+ years and over the last couple of years I have started playing more cash games. These are mostly home games and are low stakes. I do well against known players but struggle against unknown players. I play in two monthly tournament leagues and host a monthly game where we play a combination of tournaments and cash. I am a consistent winner in these games but I know these players and can outplay most of them. I have also played in a weekly online league where I have won a couple of free trips to Vegas to play in WSOP event. As I learned the online players, the better I did.

I seldom do well going to a new game and have played in my local casino daily tournaments and have not done well. This is a small sample but it is a pattern. FYI - Some of the players in my leagues and home game do very well at the casino.

Looking to get better. Don't think I need a hardcore book about the math of poker, looking more for assigning had ranges and new strategies against random players. Also looking for any entertaining books about poker. Any recommendations?

I would recommend “No-limit holdem for advanced players” by Matthew Janda. A lot of GTO based concepts along with AI and solvers for the modern game.

Harrington, Robertie: Harrington on Cash Games 1+2
Two physically separate books, but the chapter numbers of book 2 actually start where they ended in book 1, so technically it's just one big and expensive book.
Helped me balance out some less healthy parts of my play style. Was skeptical at first because (mostly) how the guy looks like and (less) what I read about him pretty much gave me the impression of an old fart's ABC poker, but it's actually pretty advanced and by far not as tight/nitty as it sounded like. Only minimal math but a lot of hand analysis and strategical alternate option exploring.

Negreanu: Power Hold'em Strategies
Contains various small chapters about very different topics, both for tournament and cash. You definitely can take away a few little info pieces from it.

I also have Playing the Player on top of my small stack of books still to read here. Table of contents looked very promising. Maybe a bit too overkill for soft home games, but sounds exactly like what could help me harden my online strategy against all those third world grinders.

Also on said stack of books is Heads-Up No Limit Hold 'Em by Collin Moshman. Harrington's books also do have a chapter about HU confrontation but the more the better I guess.

1: Professional No-Limit Hold 'em: Volume I

ISBN-13: 978-1880685402, ISBN-10: 188068540X

2. Small Stakes No-Limit Hold'em of Miller, , Flynn, Matt, Mehta, Sunny on 05 October 2010

Good books that discuss concepts of SPR.

Books are so old school. Get a membership to upswingpoker and learn from the best that constantly gets updated. It’s more expensive but is totally worth it if you are serious about improving your game. Doug Polk and Ryan Fee are of the best at not only playing but teaching poker. They also have great tourney and PLO content.

Hands down the best poker book I've ever read. If you liked the stories of Doyle Brunson Poker Wisdom of a Champion you will love this.

Book called aces and Kings... All the old vegas and Texas road gamblers... Best book I've read since I started reading poker.
