VERSA Cases Back in Stock at DPS (1 Viewer)

Here’s what the 1,000 chip case looks like built out further, into the areas where the felt-covered blocks are. All told, this adds room for about 188 more Paulson THC Starbursts. The case already held more than 1,000 chips for me, so now it’s more like a 1,200-chip case. I also cut a strip of foam for the small centermost bin to store the keys (which I want to retain, but seldom actually use).

I just got another one of these cases, and remain very pleased with them (especially as modified above). The one thing I would mention about the larger size is that once full of chips, it gets pretty heavy. I use them for Paulson THCs and ASM H-molds, and get a good deal more than 1,000 chips into each.

If I were using these for more frequent transport, rather than just lugging them from my basement up to the living room, I would probably use the 500-piece size, or use a brand which offers 750-chip cases.

When you are planning to move and realize you just don’t have enough cases.

2x Versas just arrived (with a birdcage on the way).

The struggle is real...

hmm. Raises an interesting point.
Those of us who like to keep our chips in cases have the advantage of being ready to go if it’s time to move or go on the lam.

I figured you would have plenty of chip boxes to last FOREVER....

I do, but they definitely aren't convenient for moving large quantities of chips. I have about 12,000 in my collection, and the loose boxes are just a disaster. Gotta consolidate.

Never though of it this way. Good point for fire, flood, etc.

Hey, I think cases are cool and I do my best to champion the cause for cases, because they’re largely neglected around here. But let’s not kid ourselves, if I had a dedicated poker room, my chips would be proudly displayed in birdcages. But without the dedicated room, it’s much easier to stash then here and there in cases.

Thoughts on which is a better chip case, the Versa or the Claysmith Gaming Case with the plastic trays? Anyone own both and have a comparison or recommendation on which one to purchase? Thanks.

I have four of the Versa cases and I love them.

Regarding the Claysmith cases, it depends on which version you get. I have the v2/newer version, and I don't like it at all. It is cheaply made and the locking latches don't fully close on the ones that I have. That said, there are some folks here who have the v1/original Claysmith cases, and they claim they are some of the best ever made. If you can get one of the original versions used in the classifieds, that might be the way to go.

I don't know which version of the Claysmith case I have but the latches are plastic and seem to be very cheaply made. I like your recommendation of the Versa cases. I plan on buying a couple of those now. Thanks for your opinion.

Has anyone ever tried to modify their Versa in such a way as to fit a case of Copags/Kems in it? I never have a use for dice so I'm wondering if the inserts for the dice can come out and make one big storage area for cards, buttons, etc.

On my 500 Vesa case I popped out the card dividers and use a tube for the 43mm chips in my HS Cleveland tournament set. The tube fits best in the middle but also can sit in the last row without bumping chips.

What was the process of taking those dividers out? It is a smash and grab job or is there a more tactful way to go about it?

Two are on my doorstep right now. Can’t wait to get home. Then to try to figure out how to fix the inside.

I don’t know how others did it, but in my 1,000 chip cases IIRC they were tacked in with really wimpy brad-type nails. You can pretty much just pull them out with one hand. I suppose you could jimmy them out more gently with a flathead screwdriver, or even an ordinary knife.

Thank you! I am ordering a 1,000 piece case right now and this makes me even more excited about it.

Just waiting for the next coupon code to come out, and I'm going to give several of these a try. They look great. And my old tired aluminum cases have got to go.

About a week ago, the Versa 1000 pc case I ordered from DPS came and it was pretty banged up. It had a gouge on the top side of the case and one of the bumpers on the spine was broken off, which meant the case did not stand upright. I could handle the gouge but I didn't want to deal with a case that tipped over all the time when not laid flat. I emailed DPS with pics and they sent me out a new case right away. The new case arrived yesterday and the outside of the case was pristine! But the inside has seen better days. Some torn fabric, shoddy craftsmanship on the dividers (granted, I was going to take a couple of them out anyway but all of them were crooked and hanging on by a thread). I was able to take out the dividers I didn't want and secure the ones I did want with finishing nails, but a couple spots of torn fabric liner is a bummer.

My advice to those of you ordering these is to do so with confidence but be diligent about inspecting your case when it arrives and report any damage to DPS right away.

Just got the Versa 500 from eBay and am impressed. I can get 53 tiki king chips on each row for a total max capacity of 530 (pictures below show 52 chips per row). I took the middle section out (which came out with a pull, it was just lightly glued in). Laid down a piece of cardboard on top of the wood so it wouldn’t be sticky. Used that spot to store card setup, 20 bounty chips, 16 show em chips, 8 All-in/Call buttons, and 1 dealer button with still room to spare.

Yeah, those Versa cases are great! I have a couple of the 1000 chip cases and they are by far my favorite. Very durable and well built. Plus I think they look awesome.

Has anyone ever refurbished one of these?

The faux velvet liners in one of my 1,000-chip Versa cases have gotten pretty frayed, at the ends especially.

I’ve taken to putting blanks at the end of each row to prevent chips from scratching against bare material (wood? chipboard?) underneath the black lining.

It would appear that I have enough leeway with the foam top that I could re-line the interior trays with some thin cloth, without things becoming too snug. Was thinking of trying that option using spray adhesive and some outdoor fabric that won’t be likely to transfer color.

But maybe there are other methods. One might be to rip everything out and just retrofit this to fit Paulson racks, though I’m not sure how it would fare. Stuff seems pretty well glued in.

Or just switch over to a pick-and-pluck Pelican or the equivalent.

Any bright ideas?

I used some extra open cell foam from my table build underneath the foam in the lid to ensure a tighter fit.

If I could have removable Paulson racks in a Versa case that would be the dream solution. I really like to have predefined barrels so that I can count out chips quickly and also ensure I haven’t lost any chips at the end of the night. I absolutely despise pick and pluck foam.

So I am not going back down that route myself. Currently using a mix of Versa briefcases and Versa Birdcage cases.

So I went ahead and did a demolition job on the interior of one of my three Versa 1,000-chip cases... Everything came out easily by hand. The only piece I left in was the back wall, where the cloth is hinged to the cover:

I love science! So what’s the plan? Even if you don’t plan to do it permanently... could you mock up how the Paulson racks with chips would fit in there? Very curious about that.
