Best Size Pelican Case for chip racks (1 Viewer)

just picked up the monoprice hard case from massdrop....will post pics once received

both of the Sam's clubs I went in had them in the same isle as he shelving and storage bins.

Every time I'm in a different city I swing by a Sam's if it's nearby to check for one. I've been to 11 across 4 different states and still came up empty handed.

I also missed them when they were cheaper on Amazon, and they're back to $40.

I gave up and bought a "Used - Very Good" one from Amazon Warehouse Deals for $33 and change. Most AWD purchases I've made in the past contained new items that are repackaged, and if they aren't it's easy to return them. I'm just hoping the foam is intact.

I was there this morning and bought another. If you want to PM your address I can get a shipping quote and let you know what it would cost door to door as I have to go to the PO next week. There were 100+ on the racks at Sam's near me so I am sure I can get more.

Got the Members Mark cases from Amazon and I’ve configured both. Wanted utility here, so, both cases are easily convertible to accommodate more or less chips.
Overall I'm impressed with the quality. Not as nice as Pelican, but pretty damn close, for a LOT less $

Case 1 is strictly chips. 800 is easy enough to carry. If I replace the bottom foam with ½” it will take 1,200 but weighs about 36 pounds.

Case 2 is shown with 600 chips but can also be configured to take 900 using ½” foam in the bottom.
Either way there is plenty of room for 3 set-ups, dealer buttons and a box for cut cards & misc.

My AWD "Used - Very Good" version of the Member's Mark case came today. Aside from being incredibly dusty and having a torn/taped "box" it appears to be new with foam intact. I'll sit down later to configure and pluck. Pretty happy for $33, though obviously not as happy as I'd be for $20.

I was checking the Amazon prices for a few weeks. A couple of the sellers went on a pricing war run there for a while when they came down to right below $30 but they have jumped back up now. Haven't seen any lower prices lately. Have fun plucking. :)

Has anyone been able attempted to place 11-12 racks of chips in a 1520 Pelican Box 2 racks deep? I know that 3 racks can fit but was thinking of trying one horizontal rack in front of the vertical racks either on the side or in the center. I'm not sure whether the corner or the center would be the best method here.

Codeman, I considered doing it for boxes, and sort of did. Since I could turn the boxes sideways without the chips spilling out, that's exactly what I did. There was room to do them flat, so I think you could do it if you wanted to configure it that way.

I agree. From what I've measured, it looks like there is a perfect amount of room for a sideways row. Now I'll have to decide center or corner.

Corner would likely weigh one side down unless you have something else to counter it. That isn't necessarily bad, but something to think about.

Here is my newly configured 1520 for an extra rack of chips (and less decks of cards). 11 racks total with 5 double stacked and the front rack single stacked. This one case now holds 1155 chips :D....enough for a 21 person tournament and for cash too. Thanks for the input everyone.

Smaller, more mobile option for when I don’t need to drag out the whole shebang: Pelican 1400, with space for up to 700 chips. Nice thing about covered 4 x 25 chip boxes is that I don’t need to fill them all—if fewer chips are needed just fill the extra spots with empty boxes. No sloshing around.

Gopher, great job on both cases! I too use the 4x25 boxes and love the fact that you can turn them sideways if necessary or use empties and still maintain the purpose. You can't do either of those with 5x20 racks, unless you use covered racks, and even then, I'm not sure about turning them sideways.

I love this, where did you get the covered racks from?

OK this layout is fucking epic. Single-table travel-set storage solution of the decade. Looks like the front rack could perhaps get shifted to accommodate a setup of cards in softpacks. Or, dividers between three barrels of chips could be cut out for a setup + 625ct chip capacity. Compact, ultra-rugged, adaptable, no fumbling around in the depths of foam to try grabbing racks, reasonably light (20lb-ish), and not ungodly expensive.

JEAN-YUS!!

And the best part was the Pelican 1400 was under $60 for Amazon Prime Day.

They are sold out on Apache :-(

Hard to find these days. They're available on Amazon from Brybelly, at $9.98 each with free shipping.

Better, they're available on Amazon from E-Brands at $3.99, with shipping of $6.01 for any number up to (at least) 20. I just ordered 20 for $90 with expedited shipping, so we'll see...

Pelican 1510, set up for 1,600 chips in 4x25 covered boxes. Eleven boxes in lower layer, five in upper layer.

@gopherblue I followed your example, but was only able to fit ten boxes on the bottom instead of 11. I guess that if I stand it on end, it will compress the foam over time to allow for the 11th box to get in the case.

This is such a sweet set up for carrying my chips around. Thanks for sharing with us all.

I use 4x25 plastic boxes, but you could use racks. I custom cut the pick 'n pluck foam for 1000 chips in 10 boxes. There is plenty of room in the box for more if I wanted to cut for more. I don't remember who, but someone had a 1520 I think with 2000 chips. I think there is room, but it would be very heavy. Mind fully loaded probably weighs about 45 lbs. or so.

What I did before cutting was measure the boxes in the configuration I was going to use. I can fit 1000 in mine sitting two different ways.

Oh, for accessories, I bought a lid organizer for it as well. Instead of using the screws, which seemed more permanent, I used velcrose on the inside of the lid and the back of the organizer. I can take it out and put the foam top back in if needed.

The lid organizer holds 14 decks of bridge size cards, card protectors, 2 timers, extra batteries, and several dealer buttons.
Can you post photos of your case and foam?

Here are some pics a buddy of mine took of a 400 chip set he recently put into a Pelican. I helped him pick out a good one. For a small set, the camera case is super lightweight and has a softer handle and a little extra space for pretty much the same price.
