For those who don't know, Gene Trimble was a well-known collector & historian/researcher of chips from illegal casinos. He helped me track down/validate provenance for chips on a number of occasions, particularly those from in & around Kentucky. Goodness knows he's provided assistance to a great deal more people than myself.

As a whole, the chipping world has lost a gem of a resource, and I'm sad to say I never got to meet the man or shake his hand to personally thank him for his assistance.

Via con Dios, Gene.

The first notice I saw can be viewed here. I have no other details to provide beyond what's in that thread.

Sad news. That man was a wealth of knowledge, don't make them like that very often. Never met him personally myself but he answered questions for me and didn't know me from Adam. :(

Wow. He was an absolute wealth of knowledge and experience. Such a valuable resource, I am saddened to hear of his passing.

So sad to hear this. Never met him, but he was super helpful to me over the years. RIP Gene.

Man, sad to hear. Very helpful and knowledgeable guy.

My wife and I spent an afternoon with Gene. I spoke to him a few times after and he shared more chip and casino history with me than anyone else.

He wrote about Newport KY's underground casino operations and gave me a little extra color.( Newport is basically an extension of Cincinnati. )

His history interlaced with some of the biggest casinos in Vegas.

The man was so baller he managed to get GPI no molds for his personal chip!

Sad news indeed. The community just lost one of it's founding fathers. I never had the pleasure/privilege to meet Mr. Trimble but six years ago I was added on to an email chain between him and another enthusiast on the subject of TR King dice. I added my two cents and then he told me something I had never heard before. It was a real eye opener.

I have a few unique chips in my collection. One of them is a green scrown that's hot-stamped 'Happy Birthday Gene ~ 70'. I never asked him if it was his, I guess I just assumed it.

He will be missed but always remembered.

A true icon of our hobby. RIP, Gene. You will be missed.

RIP to one of the giants in the chip collecting community and condolences to his family and friends.

Gene was a great guy and would always take the time to help anyone interested in chipping. There is really only a handful left of old the old timers who pretty much created the hobby. We lost an incredible man.

He will be surely missed in the Chip Collecting World !!!!!

I had the pleasure of chatting with him by email a few times. He will surely be missed.
