Rossi will not be in the top 5. He got lucky on a fuel run last year.
Tempting, but I can't bet against my horse.
I'd list the following six as the major threats to win (no particular order). They always seem to be in contention when it gets close at the end.

Kanaan
Hunter-Reay
Dixon
And you just can't count out Alonso. Even as a rookie, he's no rookie.
EDIT: Ah, left out Dixon. If the engine holds up, he could be a wire-to-wire winner.

No prop bet on him wrecking. The brickyard is unforgiving. I feel that his lack of racing on ovals will force a mistake and the margin is very small. I've been watching his lines in practice and he puts it on the limit. He will be very fast, maybe too fast.

Actually he was in an Andretti car. He was not as fast as his team mates so they gambled on pit strategy. This year I hope we run green the last 30 laps and there are no yellows.
Forget the bets, who would I love to see win?
Marco Andretti - His family has suffered enough and him losing in the front straight a few years back was terrible. He would be a very popular winner.
JR Hildebrandt - The damn fool put it in the fence losing the race in the last corner. I can't imagine that many nights pass the isn't thinking of this as he goes to sleep.
Ed Carpenter - He has been very fast in the past during qualifications but has never been in contention at the end of the race.
Takuma Sato - He took his shot on the last lap a few years ago and nearly won it all.
Technically he was on a Bryan Herta Motorsport car with an Andretti Motorsport collaboration, and only for the 500...
My list is a little longer than yours man, LOL!!! Here it is:
Fernando Alonso - He is on the top of the list for me... The guys has had the worse luck ever in F1 after he left Ferrari.
Juan Pablo Montoya - Legend! His first stint at Indy might have been the best ever of any driver, he was a beat and I became a fan. He struggled at F1 and Nascar a bit but I'll love to see him win in likely his last try.
Helio Castroneves - He has SUCKED the past few season... As a fan, I'd like to see him tied the record for the most 500 wins. Not many chances left imo...
Joseph Newgarden - He seems to be a really good guy, super fast driver and probably the best American talent to come up the last few years. Indy would benefit tremendously with an American dominating the series, which hasn't happen in decades. I'd like him to be the one doing that...
Tony Kanaan - Tony is THE man... The most popular Indy driver by a large margin and for many years... Dude is a blast and hyper fast... If you ask all the driver who do they want to see win the race if it's not them, I'b bet 90% would say Kanaan, LOL!!!
