Roars from the Lion's Den (4 Viewers)

Hah! I was about to say the same thing. Maybe after we all chip in to get Dennis an extra table we can get him one of these:

Pretty sure button min-raised, I folded, Russian Steve called and check-called when button shoved on the flop for his remaining stack. Can't remember blinds or stack sizes.

It's been a while since we had a game... April's cash game was not held in deference to @krafticus getting back into "hosting mode". Looking forward to that

April's NLHE tournament draw a full house (20 players) for the 3rd month in a row... woo hoo(y):D. This tournament was a little different in that I sold "show'em" chips for at $1 donation to the snack fund. I supply snacks, etc without a rake and the regulars who play cash game after the tournament will always chip in their odd dollars.. much appreciated. There are a few tournament players that also usually contribute. Figured this was a good way to get everyone chipping in.

Original Lion's Den chips in play

Here are a few pics from the tourney....

Quads early on.. don't recall the losing hand

New player... my neighbor Jim (*in the glasses on the right) contemplates a bet in a big pot he eventually won. Semi-funny / sad story -- Jim has been my neighbor for 16 years but I only met him last month when one of tree fell on another neighbors deck and he decided to chop a bunch down. The trees were a physical barrier between our homes which are "back to back", so I never had a pathway to his home and never saw him outside (he has a very small back yard)

@Chippy McChiperson pretending to win the tournament with the "Ninja" Bill and I chopped top 2 prizes with Bill giving me a bit of the 1st place money.
Bill had a pretty substantial chip lead and we were both interested in the cash game that had already begun.

The cash game started with PCA chips early with @kirchhausen running like god against Patrick. He continued to run well as the game got bigger. Here he is showing his typical reaction to winning a pot;)

Enjoy

What was the reaction to the "show em" chips? I thought about doing this, but wondered if someone would refuse to show, or be rubbed the wrong way.

I wasn't able to make this game, but the Show em chips are always fun and I've never seen anyone have any issues. Biggest little problem is the occasional quick mucking player. They're also a great way to make a little extra $$ - I used them in some fundraisers and they were very popular.

Cool, thanks!

Show'em chips are well received. I limited each player to 3 chips max... many went unused as some folks just forgot to use them or busted out before using them

You don't have any hardcore "I'm not showing my hand" type players? I only ask because I might, and wouldn't want there to be a conflict or animosity. Although, I believe this would be fun and we'll received by most guys.

We don't have any hard core folks like that... people generally don't show their hand unless required at showdown, but many will show if asked or they make a big hand or lose a cooler....and no one would refuse to show a hand in response to a show'em chip

The only one that may have an issue would be Sam, but I assume with the show 'em chips, he would be a good sport about it. I hope to play in next month's game.

Speaking of the idea of show 'em chips, when someone throws down the show 'em chip, does the player show everyone or just the person who used their SE chip? And do people who have to show retain the SE chip for their use later?

Cards are shown to everyone... although showing only to the SE chip holder is an interesting idea.
Since I "sold" the show'em chips, I took them off the table after being used otherwise someone gets a SE chip for free
You could of course resell them to someone else after taking them off. perhaps at a break

Having the person who had to show keep the SE chip could work too.. Maybe instead of selling them, you could randomly give out 1 or 2 per table and have the person who had to show get the SE chip.. that way the SE chips could migrate to some/most of the players at the table.

Held the May tournament last night at the Lion's Den - GCOP chips in play.
We also broke out the Piatnik cards... awesome cards... will definitely be in use again.. may have to score a few more decks.

@kirchhausen, @MrBo and yours truly chopped the tournament 3 ways around 12:30am after 5 hours of play. All the chip stacks were about the same and only 10 big blinds deep

It seemed to be the night of quads... I can remember quads appearing at least 4 times including the first hand of the night
Otherwise it was a rather quiet night with only 3 rebuys all at the same table.... @Chippy McChiperson's table naturally

A couple of pics courtesy of @PhilLaFond who managed a small win with quad 6s and was kind enough to share the last of his Pappy's bourbon with us. Also a shout out to @kirchhausen who replenished our supply of Buffalo Trace

A typcial set-over set hand in the tournament

@PhilLaFond make quad 6s to win a massive pot.. PCAs in play

Well, it's been some time since we posted here.... a couple of cash games got cancelled and I probably forgot pics or there was nothing exciting happening.. likely the former
Glad to have something to post now...

Last night was the (first annual??) Lion's Den Deepstack, BBQ and Free Beer event... no not free BBQ (@PhilLaFond) that drew a crowd of 18 players
BBQ supplied by Mission BBQ (many thanks to my wife for running out and picking it up) and beer provided by those who have left it in the beer fridge over the past few months and perhaps longer. Management made all appropriate disclaimers and fortunately no one got sick (at least not at the game).

Starting stacks of 25K with 30 minute levels. We started at 4pm and the game ended about 1am after about 7 hours of play at the beginning of level 16 (the host (y):)and another guest chopped)

BBQ pic with @MrBog in the foreground and "Russian Steve" in the back

I can't remember a game in which there were so many suck-outs on the river. I can recall at least twice where gutshots hit and these two hands in particular

I the first hand villain raises to about 10K and heroine shoves with KK for about 40K .. villain calls with AJo. Heroine flops a set of K's only to see villain's runner-runner broadway hit
Allin2.jpg

Sometime later hero raises with JJ... short stack shove with JTcc. Villain flops open-ended broadway and the runner-runner clubs for the flush.

Sorry there's not more pics, but we had a good time watching the Os beat the Sox much the chagrin of @krafticus , the Ravens beat the Bills in preseason football and then of
course Mayweather toy with McGregror for 6 rounds before actually starting to box.

Hope to do this or something like it more often. Maybe we'll see some of you there.

Ah yes, my long lost twin brother from the wetlands region, Mr. Bog :)

I can recall at least twice where gutshots hit and these two hands in particular

Let's not forget about the same villain from the AJ hand making another "what the hell" shove call with KJs against my AKo and getting there on a ATxxQ runout. Thanks to @MikesDad for calling it and @kirchhausen for the preemptive "BOOM!"

Seriously though, many thanks to @MikesDad for hosting a great event, and to the wife for picking up the BBQ. Looking forward to the next one.

Saturday night cash game -- 0.50 / 1.00 NLHE with most of the core group including @PhilLaFond and @Chippy McChiperson
Mixed casino set in play -- Fitz 0.50s, GV $1s, the awesome pink Casablanca $5s, Mark Twain $25 and Aztar $100s

early game action --

Last hand of the night turned into the biggest ~ $1100 won by "Russian Steve"

There are straddles of $1, $2 and and $4
Host makes it $20 to go with AhKh
Chippy calls, regular calls, Russian steve says "WTF" and calls

Flop AcJh2c ($80)
Steve checks, host bets $50, both call

Turn is Th ($230)
Host bets $200, chippy calls, Steve goes all in for $310
Host and Chippy call

River is a blank -- 5d and Steve scoops with a set of 2s that never lose
We conjecture that Chippy had Kxc

IMAG0561.jpg

Good fun and lots of $$ moving around the table

Next cash game is sometime in October... and PCFer in the area is welcome

NHLE tournament last Friday... 18 players with 5 rebuys.. GCOP chips in play

A couple of new faces in attendance as well as the usual crowd of PCFers - @krafticus , @Chippy McChiperson , @kirchhausen , @MrBo , @PhilLaFond

Rick K started "bourbon o'clock" a bit on the early side, followed closely by Mr LaFond's samples of Japanese scotch.. didn't know there was such a thing

Here's a couple of shots from the action. Mr. Bo was the eventual winner... congrats to the former (defending?) EWSOP champion

Short stacked Eric P (new to my game, but not to the players) gets it all in pre with :ks::js: vs :kh::ac:(chippy)?
:ks::js: flops top pair and a flush draw, :qh: on the turn and as chippy clamors for a Ten, the whole table shouts for the :ts: which was duly delivered to make the straight but also the flush

IMAG0576.jpg

And here's Eric P, the happy winner of the hand above... his wife (in the background) apparently loves a good beard

IMAG0575.jpg

Marks gets it all-in with AJo vs KQo that flops trips and just to rub it in the turn is a Jack giving Mark the underboat

IMAG0577.jpg

A smiling @Chippy McChiperson starts the final table as chip leader..... cashes out in 4th

IMAG0572.jpg

@PhilLaFond wins a nice pot with a set of 6s against turned 2-pair

There's an open invitation to any PCFer in the area that wants to play in the game.. just shoot me a PM for details

Wow... can't believe it's been a year since we last posted here... time flies

Unfortunately the reason for my post is alert PCFers in the Ellicott CIty, MD, PA, VA area that the Lion's Den is shutting down at least for a while
My wife and are are selling our home so there's lots of work to do, not the least of which is to paint the basement.

If you know of anyone who wants to move the to Elicott City, MD area (I live in a community called Turf Valley Overlook), shoot me a PM or
email me at dlfrey60 at gmail dot com. Your help will be much appreciated

Dennis

Good luck Dennis! Your home is in an awesome area so I am sure you will have no problem selling quickly. I have a ton of friends / family in EC so I will keep an ear out.

It was fun playing last month and I hope to play again when the lion’s den reopens.

Dennis - best of luck on the sale and the upcoming move. You have a great place so I'm sure you'll have no problem with interest in your property.

I've been meaning to come back out things unfortunately just have not lined up schedule wise.
