I don't often play or host tournaments but am hosting a 10-player tourney in April.

So, need chips but don't want to spend a ton of dough as they likely won't be used very often.

Looking for recomendatations on a decent but inexpensive chipset for $100 or less. Im open to cc or ceramics or just about anything. I was thinking of the Pioneer Commemorative sold by Apache but seemed to have misplaced my sample set and don't recall how they felt.

Thanks

I ordered them for a 50 year high school class reunion game this summer and they worked perfect. I chose them for the theme as well as the low cost. Everyone had a great time. How can you go wrong? The dealer had dealt wsop in the past and I didn't hear any complaints but I don't think that we had any chip shufflers in the group. There's still time to order another sample set too.

I could use my custom E&C cash set w denom values of $1, 2, 5, 10, 20 denoms.
The structure is $60 buyin, so starting stacks would be a SNG $60.

Is that a horrible idea?

There's always the possibility of just borrowing someone's set for a weekend - all you have to pay is the shipping.

Not horrible. It's absolutely fine.

Ok cool.
So if the starting stack is $60 what would a good blind structure be? I don't want a quick shove fest and wouldn't mind if tourney lasted 2-2.5 hours. Denoms available are 1, 2, 5, 10, and 20. I have plenty of all denoms to color up as the blinds and stacks progress.

You'd want at least 100BB, so at 1/2 that would be T200 per. Do you have the bank on the E&C?

I'd like to amend my comment... using a set with 1/5/10/20 denoms for a tournament is fine.

Doing a $60 buy-in with T60 in chips, which is what I think you mean, when the smallest denom is T1 is a bad idea - if the starting blinds are 1/2, then you've only got 30 big blinds to start, which is a horrible idea.

If your base unit is a $1 chip, I'd suggest starting stacks of T200 so that a 1/2 starting blind would results in a 100 BB starting stack. You can always allow people to buy in for $60, regardless the number of chips in the starting stack.

If people insist on some sort of sensible math between dollars and chips, you can go with a T300 starting stack, and just tell them each $1 in cash gets them $5 in chips; $60 buy-in gets a $300 stack.

The poker knights or bluffs are like 15c a piece. You can get 500 for under your budget which will cover a 10 player T10,000 tourney.

I think it'll be a bit wonky with the T1s but it can be done. The T5s will never get off the table since you're running a $20.

Yeah, total bank of E&C is $2600.

If i go this route, what would be a good blind strucure given my denoms?

Oops, just your post above. Thanks man!

Given the T200 structure above (thanks) what denoms should the starting stacks consist of?

I don't know your breakdown, but something like this would work.

T1 - 10 (10)
T2 - 10 (20)
T5 - 10 (50)
T10 - 6 (60)
T20 - 3 (60)

39 Chips

If you need to get more lower denoms on the table, then something like this might work.

T1 - 15 (15)
T2 - 15 (30)
T5 - 15 (75)
T10 - 0 (0) -Save them for color ups
T20 - 4 (80)

49 Chips

Thanks very much. Either breakdown will work. I've already got the blind structure loaded in the timer and figured out how to use my chromecast finally.

If someone wants to pick this up for you in TN, it's an excellent option. The carriers alone are basically worth $75, so the 1600+ chips are free

For structure and starting stacks, I'd skip using the $2 and $10 chips.

Just use 1/5/20/100

Otherwise too many denoms that are 2x the one before.

And for those who'd argue "but the $2/4 level"... no different than with normal vegas denoms, using 2-4 x T100 chips.
