What are you listening to? (13 Viewers)

I think I kind of burnt out on these guys back when time to pretend got big, but they were on Song Exploder this past year (podcast where musicians explain the creative process involved with specific songs) and it was pretty good.

That was good...thanks!

I first heard Time to Pretend on The Magicians pilot episode and dug it then but never sought out who it was. Never knew of them when they first came out either. I heard the song in a couple other things but still never bothered to look up who it was. Finally did when it showed up in the Spiderman trailer and have been really digging them since then...love their videos.

I just came home from a truly great consert with an awesome norwegian rock band called Bigbang, so I feel the need to share this with you guys.

Haven't listened to this record in a couple years, but Laura Jane Grace from Against Me! referenced it during the Bret Easton Ellis podcast and I'm glad to have been reminded of it.

Whole thing is fantastic. If you like these two songs - the first two on the record - be sure to check out the whole thing. It's a concept album, not in the grandest sense of a Sgt. Pepper or The Wall, but in the sense that all the tracks together tell one long narrative story.

One of the best shows I have heard in awhile. Sooooo many AWESOME special guests, sick show! Make sure you listen on a good sound system and LOUD please!

I'm listening to FLOTUS. While it made many 'best of' lists for 2016, I'm undecided.

Unmistakeably Lambchop, no denying the craft and lyrical excellence... I'm just not sure the experimental sound is doing it for me.

I'm finding it a trickier listen. Literally because I'm finding it difficult to consume aurally (I had an ear op years back, which left my hearing partially impaired). I've had to adjust the EQ on my pmp dramatically, which seems to have helped.

The beauty of Lambchop lies in the subtlety... This just might be too subtle for my tired old ears!

Very much like the opening track. Bit of a long one!

Also annoyed that I missed the ltd ed 'wine box' lol

Glad this reminded me to get back on the task of trying to catch up with all the music I missed from 2016. Decided a while ago to just binge at year end since I don't have the time to keep up through the year. Plus, Lambchop is killer and I didn't even know they had a new release.

@Toby I feel like we must have talked about the Vic Chesnutt/Lambchop album The Salesman and Bernadette, right? For some reason they're not listed as the artist, but Lambchop was Vic's backing band for the album. It's really great.

Of those, I've listened to 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 15, 19, and 22 and all were very good to great. Lots of catching up to do for me too.

The Car Seat Headrest album was definitely of my favorite new things I've heard so far from 2016.

If ya never heard em, I already posted this, but here ya go:
Well I am 15 minutes into this video and now I'm just really REALLY pissed this is my first time hearing these guys. Really diggin' it!!!

Listening to all Whiskeytown and the first Ryan Adams during work today for some reason. Some crazy gems in there that I hope go down as modern classics.

I mean, yeah, the second one below is basically their best imitation of The Replacements, but damn it's a good imitation. And can you imagine if The Replacements had female harmonies? Maybe goes against their dirty quality in some ways, but I wouldn't have complained...

Diggin' the funk @Big Jilm! Maceo Parker is coming to town in February and I'm thinking of going to see him again. Saw him once many years ago opening for Bela Fleck and loved his show.

nice opener, ESPECIALLY for BF show, nice! BF is the BEST music I have ever heard live.
I knew Maceo in connection to James Brown but never listened to his solo stuff before that show. Really mixed up the the usual heavy rotation playlist I had going at that time for sure! And yeah...Bela Fleck was amazing live!

My buddy emailed me one of the tracks on the new record and said, "Damn, Donald Glover made the best Ween album in 20 years."
I could never get into Ween for some reason. I have a buddy that loves them and has tried to convert me over the years to no avail.
