I'm going to say award the pot to player A just to create some controversy.
Or this related question. What if Player B had done this maneuver at showdown: picks up his cards, quickly show/flash them to the table, but then discard them face down into the muck. Never tabling them face up. Do his cards still speak?I'm going to say award the pot to player A just to create some controversy.

Nope, and no player should provide verbal comments on any hand that isn't laying flat on the table. I don't have many pet peeves, but someone leaning over and commenting on another player's cards that are still in hand is definitely one of them! What if Player B had done this maneuver at showdown: picks up his cards, quickly show/flash them to the table, but then discard them face down into the muck. If the player can push cards into the muck, fire the dealer. If it’s a self-dealt game, remind players that when they are dealing, they need to protect the muck.If the player (not the dealer) pushes them into the muck and they are not identifiable, they are dead (rule 14, 'otherwise irretrievable...')
Wait what? It’s really easy to toss cards to the middle of the table. I’ve never seen a dealer ever call a player out for folding that way, as long as the cards don’t flash. If the player can push cards into the muck, fire the dealer. Big difference in folding/discarding *towards* the muck pile, vs folding/discarding *into* the muck pile.I fold toward the muck pile all time time. Dealers (especially the short armed ones) prefer it.
Too many ways to create problems and/or angleshoot with the latter.
