In recent weeks I’ve looked at many old classifieds to gather information about prices or market values of several different chips and sets – or just to look at pics ;) In many threads asked or paid prices were removed for good. It would help new chippers like me a lot if these were left rather than deleted after a sale is completed so we could get up to speed a lot faster. A simple "$20 SOLD" which many already apply should suffice and would really be appreciated.
I do understand that some people might not like a detailed history of their sales out there and respect this, but if you don’t mind, please revise your procedures a little bit to promote transparency and support us noobs. Thanks :)

Its a valid point, and I think most people aren't doing it to hide prices, but because it feels like the simplest way to indicate something is sold.

Ive done it a few times when I have multiple items in one listing. I think I first did it because that's how I've seen others do it, I guess it's a force of habit now.

Next time I'll try to remember to strike through instead of mark as sold.

Sure. It is in fact unambiguous and the easiest and clearest way just to delete everything regarding a sold item.

Another option that’s especially useful in a severe case of extensive pr0n would be a spoiler¹ like that:
[pics of available items]
60 x (100pri) / 40 x (25sec) = $260
[pics of sold items]
100 x 100pri = $280
200 Cleveland 500sec = $500 per rack
100 Jack x 1000pri = $1350 per rack
PS: Strike through or not wouldn’t even matter then.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but there was a lot of drama here a few years back when a member was trying to data scrape the site for sales information to build a database of prices for his own use.

I still haven't figured out how to use the spoilers  :ROFLMAO:

1. select text
2. click on (Insert)
3. click on Spoiler
4. (if desired) enter spoiler title
5. click on continue

to promote transparency
Be careful with that. What's printed in the classified is the asking price, not necessarily the selling price. Those aren't always the same. It's not at all uncommon for someone to PM sellers with an offer that's below the asking, but for the seller still accepts it.

Of course. But even an unrealistic asking price is a data point and would be better than none at all (at least in my book).

if you’re going to be promoting transparency having your account set as private is not a strong endorsement :p
I set privacy options to (near) max on any site I register by default. I have no clue what this entails in regards to sales on this site (and it sure isn’t mentioned there). Is there a help page/thread I could consult?
But either setting sure has no implication on the visibility of my posts in this forum or in classifieds – or not?

Nobody can view your profile, or see your list of previous posts, started threads, media, or gallery items, among other non-invasive actions. No real reason to have it set as private, beyond unwarranted paranoia.
