I have a non standard size table and I want to apply a betting line to the cloth. Has anyone done this before, how does it not catch cards, etc?
Would you use a taped off area and spray paint/rubber, or like an iron on line of some sort?

The goal is to eventually get a chanman cloth, but until I have a design I don't want to get a custom printed cloth with just a betting line.

Interested in brainstorming!

Do you technically need a betting line? Or, even with an odd shape, is there a spot in front of each person that is the obvious "these are my bet" spot?

Not sure what you have to cover your table, but a permanent pen may be sufficient.

I used an edding 750 paint marker in gold for my table. It worked a treat.

I also advise using tailors chalk to mark up the table before applying any paint.
Do you just measure out the perfect line in the chalk and then go over it with paint marker? Does the chalk interfere with the paint marker?

I drew my line with the chalk. I scrubbed it out a bit so I could still see it but there wasn’t a ton of chalk on my felt. Then I use the paint marker.

The paint covered up any chalk that I went over and I just rubbed out any excess chalk that was still about outside my betting line.

My guess is that huge amounts of chalk could mess with the paint, but then you could remedy this by drawing on a second coat.

I don't technically need a betting line I just like the look! Just exploring my DIY options!

Did you just freehand the paint or tape it off?

So what I ended up doing was measuring the table with a tape measure, chalking off how many inches away I wanted my betting line, 7 inches.

Then I found something solid that was 7inches wide (in my case a wooden cardbox) and hugged it to the rail chalking off the other side to make the straight sides.

For the curves I measured out the midway point at either end and marked it with chalk. I pin one end of the string and use it as a makeshift compass to match up an arc that meets up properly with everything else.

I would try a game or two when you just have chalk on so you can adjust as you feel. It’s also quite a cool look on it’s own and gives off a snooker vibe.

With the paint pen you can that go over it again but with cardboard so you don’t get paint all over your cardbox!

Can you take a picture of your table and the line?

I did draw the paint on the curves on this freehand, it’s a small second hand table with a few nicks in the rail. If it were a nicer table I would take my time a bit more.

Thanks for posting that - it's not bad. More subtle than I thought it would be. Can you feel the line, or did it soak into the cloth?

You can certainly feel the line if you rub your hand over it. I guess you would feel it more the more coats you put on.
