Hey guys,

I’m about to start a table build for a client who wants a dedicated dealer spot and a chip tray for cash games. He also wants to be able to put in an insert for tournaments that would have the same material as the rest of the playing surface. I just wanted to know if anyone had done anything like this before? I understand that it wouldn’t be difficult, but, man, I really hate this idea. I’m more than happy to do it for him as it would mean that I get to build a table for someone. Truthfully, I’m just looking for ways to make it blend in as much as possible. If anyone has any thoughts, I’d be happy to hear them.

Thanks everyone.

@pokersepp from the Pokershop has one. Personally I wouldn't want it, but I'll probably never have a dedicated dealer. It doesn't look bad and seems like a practical solution.

You don't like the idea of a chip tray? or of the insert?

With a removable insert? Do you happen to know when I could see photos of it by chance? I looked on the website, but I didn’t see anything.

this is how my table looks.
it is just with a cover and below there is the plastic insert I used from some old Pokerroom Chipsets.
It is quite handy and due that we play 90% without a dealer it is the perfect solution.

Is it a raised rail? If not you could also just make a small border box for a chip tray he could just set on the table when playing cash and remove after. Or just deal from a rack. Just a suggestion...

I appreciate your guys’ input. I pitched the idea of a drawer, but he wasn’t really into it. Luckily, it seems like he’s off the idea of the insert as well.

Personally, I wouldn't even install a dealer tray into a table unless I also had a replaceable insert to use when the tray wasn't needed.

I’m on the opposite side of that coin. I don’t care for either, but I’d rather have a dealer tray than a replaceable insert. The reason that a drawer doesn’t make sense for this particular build is because it’ll have folding legs and will need to be moved around.

Don't understand the disdain for the insert. Done properly, it can barely be seen on most tables (patterned felt such as ssc is best), and plays as if it was a solid table and not even there. Dealer trays are a pita to play over and/or around, especially if they aren't serving a purpose at the time.
