I am just leaving Vegas (on way to the airport) but in the limited time harvesting I had a very easy time at Park MGM and Planet Hollywood.

Park MGM I went to the cashier 3x and asked for $25 in $1 chips for tips (my back story was I always put all my money in the slots and want to make sure I cant insert the chip $). No issue any of the times.

When I asked at a table I ended up with 5, same at a table at the Aria, max they gave me was 10. Cage has no problem giving me some for "tips".

Planet Hollywood puts a ton of $1s in play for poker. When I cashed out I just asked for 25 $1 chips for tips. Again didn't blink and eye.

Maybe the key is to just look like a degenerate slot gambler? ;)

I haven't considered this approach! I'll have to give it a shot next month. Thanks again for the PCF 5 year chips and meeting up with us last week.

Slots = bread and butter.
When I was in Vegas before I didn't have any issues, though. To be honest new york, New York was pretty forthcoming with mint chips when I told the cashier I was a collector...

My first time in Vegas I was 21 and did some major collecting when I was there. Everytime I went to the cage I explained that it was my first time in the city and that I would like to buy a chip as a souvenir. Every cashier took the time to find chips in the best condition.

I think being honest will net more success than not.

Interesting, reading this forum it sounded like many casinos did not like to give out chips.

What is the most chips anyone has been given at one time? What is the most you have asked for?

1,000 (1,900 over 48 hours) - while honesty is a great policy, I doubt the cage manager would have been ok with it had I been completely forth coming.

Many times I've gone up and asked for a barrel for "souvenirs for friends and family" and they happily find me a nice barrel. Tropicana cashier once went into the back and grabbed from a new delivery.

What reason did you give? Hard to imagine needing 1000 for any game at one time.
Probably didn't need to give a reason. Just buy 200 $1 chips, sit down at a 3-6 LHE game, play for a while, rack up. Go do something else for 20 min. Rinse. Repeat. Bring a backpack for carting chips out to the car/up to the room in between harvests. Even better if you are killing the limit game. Works extremely well when the chips are new (No need to sort.)

The cage at Park sold me a mint rack. I dont think Park really cares.
Paris and other spots that get hit hard are more wary.

Agreed but this was one visit to the cage :). A few people know but I'll release the proprietary (not that crazy sneaky story) information after the Wynn Everett casino opens.

I have no doubts that getting a single chip or maybe even a barrel on a blue moon would be easy to do at the cage of a major casino. But most people here on the forum aren't looking for a single chip and rarely a barrel. Smaller casino's that I have asked for a rack at as a collector/souvenir (Jerry's Nugget, Silver Seven's, among other popular chip spots) have almost laughed in my face.
Major spots with a decent sized poker room - sure, you can probably walk out with racks by just asking, but I like a challenge so I usually skip them on my monthly trip.
