I have a question for all you grinders out there-

I'm about to pull the trigger on a custom T_Chan table and would like some feedback on what color playing surface you prefer and why. It's going to be a 56" round table that will be fitted with his custom gaming suede and preferably a betting line. What color and/or combination do you find to be most durable or fade resistant, plus being easy on the eyes during long sessions? o_O

Thanks-
Chad

sunset color.

It's a matter of personal preference, as well as of chip (and deck) colors you 'll be using. You need a nice contrast there.
Other than that, I would recommend the darker hues of any colour, so that the felt doesn't reflect back to your eyes the very strong lighting it must be lit with from right above.
A betting line is more than useful and nice, IMO. Logos, emblems and details not too large. The surface should make the game easily readable, without visual distractions.

The only table I’ve played on with a betting line was a cheap Chinese one... the table was meh, but the line was very useful.

I like plain/classic tables with not too bright red green or blue cloth.

That said I don’t think I’ve ever played on a table with a spectacular custom cloth like detroitdad’s above.

Hi Coyote-
I completely agree. I’m a fan of dark emerald green or dark red. Green is so common, but hard to beat.

Don’t wanna hijack, but this seems related. If there is a betting line, do you guys prefer two colors (one inside and one outside the line)?

Green is hard to beat, but I also like a dark red or even black (black more so as a second color in a two tone table).

My favorite felt color - when brand new - is black. However black is next to impossible to keep clean and looking new. Next two are burgundy and the darker forest green:

I'm a big fan of both burgandy and gray/charcoal, but I also have blue (SSC) and green (TChan) tables.

Indeed, God made trees, forrests and fields look green to humans for a reason.:)
Humans paint hospital walls green for a reason too...
You can't ever go wrong with a classy and classic dark forrest green - just make sure your $25 chip is a light enough shade of green - or a heretical custom color.

I went with almost black because my chips allowed it and my theme demanded it:

I used to like emerald green but switched to black many years ago. I like burgundy as well.
Dark grey is great too but wouldn’t match in the room my table is in.....but maybe a charcoal(n)

I have a green felt but don't like my green $25 chips because the contrast is too low. I would use a grey ssc, but my rail is brown, so I might buy a beige or golden/brown ssc.

I just got a basic table from chanman and I went with the black suited speed cloth. I like it because the suits are more difficult to see and more subtle. I prefer them to blend in as opposed to standing out. I find felts that are too busy annoying to play on.

I have had green, blue, platinum, grey and probably a few others I can’t remember anymore.

I prefer darker colors that aren’t the color of any chips in play. Right now my current favorite is probably the platinum.

I hate red felts especially for cash games.

I think something that’s not too intense on the eyes. Like others have said, a background to let your chips shine!

I prefer monochrome surfaces which don’t distract from reading the board or visually counting the pot. Or, if there is a pattern, a subtle one. (The surfaces I’ve created myself have been a very dark blue verging on black, with no pattern, just a little texture... I like how this makes the chips and cards pop.)

Also, the “felt” (does anyone use any type of felt anymore?) should not match up colorwise with any of your chips, at least not the ones in frequent use. MGM Springfield in Massachusetts really stupidly chose a red surface very close to their $5 chips, which are by far the most-used chip in the room, and it annoys me to no end.

90% of our games are cash. Why does red put you on tilt?!

I agree with your comment. Chips come and go so an all around color with a subtle pattern is preferred. Sorry to “trigger” you with the word felt ;)

Most $5 chips are red, and they are the most used chips in most cash games. They blend in too much on red felts.

The Jack casino has a red felt and it is very annoying.
That’s a great point. Red chips are most used in our game as well.
