i’ve scoured the forum for round table builds, but i need some help. does anybody have cut plans for building a 55-60” multi piece rail from 4x8 plywood ? i’ve got a budget table someone made with no rail. currently 60”. plan to cut it down to 53(?) and attach a 4” rail, which should give me 55 right? i’m pretty good with tools, but not so good at efficient use of materials lol. hoping to seat 8-9 in a pinch for a secondary tourney table.
thanks!

I have done it but it was a long time ago.

You can cut the rail in two halves from the 4 x 8 sheet. You will need to cut the rail and the rail lip pieces, four pieces total. I suggest using a router compass like this one. I just glued and screwed the pieces together with the rail lip and rail joints set 90 degrees apart to give it the strength it needs.

But this is a better way. You can cut 12" from the bottom of the 4 x 8 sheet and glue it to a 4 x 5 piece from the remainder of your sheet using biscuits. That will give you a 5 x 5 piece. You will need two 5 x 5 pieces, one for the rail and a second for your rail lip and table base. I then take the center piece left over from cutting the rail and glue it to the bottom of your base, rotating the joints 90 degrees from each other.

You also might look for Baltic Birch if you have a good lumber yard. It comes in 5 x 5 sheets.

I would definitely second looking for some 5’ x 5’ birch. Everything would be far easier including the upholstery.

thank you for the advice! due to budget constraints i will be using a 4x8 sheet leftover from reno’s . i did find a cheap compass jig for the router, and by luck, walked in to a 40% off sale at our local fabric store today. selection was thin, but i grabbed dimpled black stretchy vinyl and i spent an hour feeling thru their polyester section. the closest thing i found to actual ssc was a bright silver curtain(?) cloth. lol. stay tuned.. this should be interesting. i think it might turn out cool enough to stay out of the fugly poker table thread!

well, i built the rail last night using the multipiece method. turned out pretty decent for scraps and fabricland materials (y)
