I'm taking a stab at an Oak Tree dealer button that doesn't just replicate the inlay while still matching the theme. Here's a couple mock ups. I'm not happy with it yet, but I'm out of ideas at this point. Some input from people who actually own the chips might be helpful.

I'd go with either the oak tree on the chips, or one of the oak trees from their signs. See attached pics for some font and layout ideas, too.

I think that building used to be a Denny's. No joke...

Denny's Sign? I'm not happy with the background color or the font for "Casino".

Scan of the inlay art would look good. Too bad I sold the 1's or I would help you out :). If I can get some of the 2's then I will scan and send to you... or maybe someone here with oak trees can help out.

I have a good scan of the 1. I tried to match the mottled green of the leaves and ran out of talent.

No it won't. The inlay art is halftone screened and has small detail. If you scan a chip-sized inlay and blow it up to dealer-button-sized artwork it will look terrible.

The tree remains the issue.

See? The sky and ground look great (good job replacing with the gradients) but the tree is going to look like crap unless it's redrawn.

BTW the font should be Bookman Old Style, bold.

Honestly I like the idea in the OP. It'll look better without the thin stroke on the text (i.e. design on the right >>> design on the left.)

I should add that to use as a guide. Atomiktoaster has been converting images to svg. I typically scan and tweak the existing image or put it in the background and use as a guide for the new image.

I like the look of the inlay, but that may just be me.

I prefer the tree logo on the sign (top photo of post #2).

Yes, definitely, placing the scan as a background and drawing/tracing on top of it is the way to go. I just meant a scan itself would not be very good at button size.

Converting to SVG basically means redrawing it. For something like the white squiggles around "CASINO" on the sign, I can do a decent job. The amount of detail and color variation in the inlay tree is so high that I don't even know where to start. It's especially complicated where you can see the wood through the leaves. p5woody provided the base art for the inlay, which helped a lot.

The sparse looking tree logo on the sign might be doable, but I can't get a good feel for what it's supposed to look like from that picture. Is anybody happy with the blob-like tree on the mostly yellow button?

Gear, thanks for the tip on the font. If we get some traction on a design I'll make sure to download it and make the switch. Somehow half my fonts are for weird unicode scripts like Gulim, which makes it hard to find good matches. I just traced the "OAK TREE" when I couldn't find a font with that straight-sided O.

I'm not really sure what you're describing, but I don't know how much I can improve on the blob-tree. I had thought about the kind of design that you'd need for a clear acrylic button. Two curves for the hills and a solid tree outline, with the text about like I have it. I'm not sure if I can pull it off in grayscale on a ceramic button though.

Just for the record, zero interest here in a yellow dealer button.

The goal for the yellow one was sort of a gold/tan, same background as the logos you posted. I missed the mark on that. No problem doing that on blue or white or gray or whatever, but nobody seems too thrilled about basing it on the sign at this point anyway.

How about an actual oak tree from my property? I could get a better shot with the DSLR tomorrow...

I'm not a huge fan of photos on ceramic, but I don't have a set of Oak Tree chips either.

C'est bon?

EDIT: Please don't reply in French. I've pretty much exhausted my French vocabulary after that.

Grayscale looks remarkably attractive, imo.

Is anybody making laser acrylic buttons in the US now? There's a lot of potential there I think, using dithering for the gradients.

Fair enough. Of the options floated so far, I like the OP the best. Definitely not a fan of the grayscale, and I'm not sure that something very closely copying the chips is the way to go. I'm VERY interested in Oak Tree DBs - if I had any art skillz whatsoever, I would have taken a crack at it by now. Thanks for what you're doing!

The minimum is only five buttons, and Jeff and Ronoh have been down to buy almost anything. There's no reason it can't happen. I took your picture of the tree and gave it a shot. It had to be oval in order to get the entire tree.

I'm wondering about bringing some color back into it somehow.

Could make the tree a dark-green gradient, and use the blue sky gradient and green grass gradients from before?
