In the same way that I love reading about bizarre religious beliefs, I love hearing someone try to convince me of crazy conspiracy theories.

I used to listen to Alex Jones on occasion, but he's gotten too blowhardy and shrill over the past several years. One of my favorite of all time is David Icke. That's the guy who believes that the vast majority of the global elite are lizard people who cause others to believe they appear human by mind control (amazing youtube link). Pretty obvious once you think about it, really.

Of course there's the traditional "Bush caused/knew about/supported 9/11" people. And then there's the mildest version of conspiracy theorist who just believes the government knows about extraterrestrial beings or has been in contact with them and is concealing that information from the public. And then there are the most dangerous types who believe vaccines cause autism.

So...who believes this stuff? I'm sure we have a bunch of conspiracy-oriented folks on this board. Who will own up to believing that chemtrails are the work of George Soros?

Hollywood faked the moon landing. A (not-so?) small part of me believes this may have actually been the case.

I don't know that it's a "conspiracy theory", more like an observation. After 9/11 New York instituted "torch units" in their subways. These were supposed to help detect and deter terrorism.

Essentially they took police officers and replaced their pistols with high powered firearms (machine guns, assault rifles? I dunno what the "correct" term is these days)

How that will help an officer DETECT a bomb threat better is beyond me. Furthermore, how it helps them to DETER such threats also escapes my grasp, especially considering we're dealing with people who are willing to martyr themselves and die for their cause, so they don't care if you have a really sharp pencil or a bazooka.

This was just another way for our government to gradually get Americans used to a more heavily armed police force, as those in power see the writing on the wall, and are preparing for implementation of martial law as time progresses and people wake up to what's been going on (the ridiculous corruption, invasions of privacy, circumventing international, federal and state laws by government agencies under the guise of protecting freedom and other such bullshit)

actually i think i'm probably right there with you in that i would not be that shocked to learn it was true.

preparing for implementation of martial law, huh? you're in the right state for that kind of thinking, i'll give you that.

I didn't know David Icke (I do know Jones). I just ripped through a couple Icke videos and all I have to say is what... a... dumbass.

i'm not sure what it says about me that i have watched several of his 4+ hour "documentaries". you do get some looks when the guy on the treadmill next to you sees your ipad and watches a depiction of tony blair transforming into a lizard using CGI that looks like it was developed by a high school a/v club.

Hah. I just don't see his persuasion. I mean, I've had my wallet out at 3am to buy infomercial crap that I neither need or want but the sell is persuasive. Icke just sounds disconnected and vague in most of his points so I fail to see how he is generating such a following. I guess they're all dumbasses too.

And it says nothing about you to have consumed so many of his LOLDOCS. Its fascinating when someone so far off is able to create a platform that brings in attention and followers. Same reason we love Westboro Baptist Church. The more you watch, the more you go "huh?" about the fact that there is more than one person on board with it.

I can't believe Hollywood faked the moon landings. VFX were way off the quality needed to pull that off. Also there's been plenty of scientific proof that the landings have taken place (like the mirrors placed on the moon which they bounce lasers off to gauge distance).

I'm definitely not trusting the official Warren report on the assassination of JFK, and while some of the claims about 9/11 are goofy, there's still plenty to support that it wasn't a plane that hit the Pentagon, and that the collapse of Tower 7 was circumspect to say the least.

....while some of the claims about 9/11 are goofy, there's still plenty to support that it wasn't a plane that hit the Pentagon....

My bro-in-law says it was a plane. And since that plane penetrated the building about eight feet below his ass, I tend to take his word for it.

No one will ever be able to convince me that WTC7 was not a controlled demolition. Literally every single characteristic of an implosion and no evidence that it collapsed from a fire. As far as everything being orchestrated by our government...have you seen our government work?

I'll echo this sentiment for Alex Jones. I've watched his video about the Bohemian Grove multiple times. I've had ties to the event itself for a few years and know a fair amount of Bohemian Club members. I do not share the political bent of the general consensus of Bohemian Club /Grove members but Alex Jones' video is pretty much complete and utter bullshit. A total propaganda piece.

i think part of my disenchantment with Alex Jones is that i don't even believe that he believes his own bullshit anymore. i think he was honestly all in with his stuff a decade or so ago, but particularly when he started trying to appeal to christian paranoia, it was just too much.

it's become a cash grab. and i don't begrudge him grabbing idiots' cash, but it's not that much fun to watch anymore.

I never really watched any Alex Jones stuff directly. I always hear/read about stuff he says, but have never sought out anything. I used to love listening to Art Bell back in the day. George Noory on coast-to-coast has some good guests, but haven't listened in quite a while.

What I dont care for is the term 'conspiracy theorist' when it is used to generalize anyone who thinks differently than the norm.
In reality most dont even know what the definition of conspiracy is.

There is critical thinking and then there is paranoia. And there are different levels of alternative thinking/critical thinking. Just because I believe 9/11 was a false flag, does not make me a terrible person. Many who know me would say I am fairly caring and quite manner-able. Its all in how you see the world around you in your consciousness.

I for one will NOT enter a debate with anyone on a subject I have no idea about or have not researched. Yet I will have someone try to debate me on something I know a good amount on and they do not - it just ends up them yelling and shitting on my character because it is all they have left.

I tend to look at all angles of something before I come to a set belief pattern on it.

Certain people have come into my life over the last 6-7 years (including a New York times best selling author who wrote a book about the avian bird flu hoax).
Its all about perspective IMO. Some may see pink on a wall but others may see it as red.

For example on Fluoride... If you actually go to Harvard.edu you can read a study that finds it does lower children's IQ by 7 points. This to me is a credible source. Also the Lancet journal of medicine has classified it as a neuro-toxin.

Bottom line is people can laugh and poke fun of 'conspiracy nuts' but there is a line between a nut job loonie bin and a logical/critical thinker who bases their beliefs (which is all one has really) on new information brought to them at any given time. I dont just go on youtube and watch some kid in his basement talk about something and believe it. I tend to find information from accredited research journalist who sum up and post their findings on things. (ones who do not have a skin in the game - like listening to the head scientist for Monsanto say Roundup is safe on the Dr's tv show). There is some really really super 'wow' information out there but its just dropped to the bottom of the news files and covered by lots of $.

It really is a rabbit hole. Unless you live in a mind state where everything is peachy and no elements within the governments are lying etc then great. I am happy for you. But it all depends on far you want to take it.

Personally right now I am focusing more on just bettering myself through eating clean and exercising. I am not as focused on learning things about 9/11 or the federal reserve. I dont have the mindset anymore to want that negative energy in my life.

I am really tying to separate my personal beliefs from my poker chip world so please dont flame me on here for thinking a different way. I respect everyones opinions on anything thats a hot topic.

AJ is more than likely an insider. He is used to stir up the people. I only listen to the first 20 min of his shows before bed just to get some news of the day. Most of his news he gets from the AP or reuters. I am not a fan of him but I also dont kill the messenger... because he delivers pretty good news about social and political events.

If you can believe deep down that your government may of faked the moon landings to get at Russia. Is it that hard to believe the same government wouldn't of had some type of involvement over 9/11?

Now I'm not saying I believe either theories. But 20+ years ago or whatever you would've been considered a nut to believe the moon landings were fake. Now it's almost like "yeah, I could see that happening". In another 10-20 years will people say the same about 9/11?

I think right now its close to 50/50 who believe 9/11 was a false flag. Just not many will talk about it because of fear of backlash.
I just cant fathom how a building thats 47 stories can fall and nearly free fall speed with only small to moderate fires and exterior damage. Then add in all the insurance added weeks before by the lease holder and put options on the airliners.
I really do love architects and engineers for 9/11. 2400 architects and engineers who question the collapses of all 3 NYC buildings.

as for the moon..
this is somewhat interesting. I have not studied up much on the moon landings so this is about all I can provide lol Interesting though!!

Well, on the opposite end of the spectrum, there's the ultra-naïve folks. The people who I've argued with before that say things like "our government wouldn't kill its own people!"

All I can do is shake my head in those instances.

Liked the video, didn't care for the uninformed comments. The video clearly describes the danger of the radiation to the guidance systems, computers, and electronics. It doesn't speak of danger to humans other than you'd want these systems to keep working for the rest of the mission. The Apollo missions didn't have computers on board, only electrics and mechanics. Computations were done by hand by the astronauts or on the ground and sent up. This was the age of tube transistors, not of microprocessors.

If that was supposed to be proof the Apollo missions were faked I'll stand with the overwhelming empirical proof they did happen.

Again this is what I mean by which I can not enter into a discussion about this because I have not focused on this topic enough to be confident in it.

All I know is about the dangerous belt and other tid bits of oddities within pictures and videos from the event. Not enough to come to a conclusion BUT based on many many other leads about how things are run on Earth I would lean more towards faked. But not 100% though. . We have we not gone back then? curious

Two reasons off the top of my head: (1) the moon landing didn't kill 3,000 people: and (2) likely a thousand times easier to keep a high level secret back in 1969.

I'd still say it's something like 20:1 against. It's just that of all the classic mammoth conspiracy theories, it's the only one that is close to conceivable (i.e., greater than a 1% chance).

There's no economic and very little scientific benefit to returning to the moon. We're now more interested in commercial launches, deep space research, and developing a space station.

The nearest planet is the next goal to develop human space exploration, and it's still too far off to accomplish.

I'm curious why people don't believe we put a man on the moon. Is it really that unthinkable? I find it much more unbelievable that we have 5.5" cellphone screens with higher resolutions than my 55" Plasma TV, or that the Egyptians created buildings taller almost 5000 years ago than anyone's been able to build for until about 100 years ago.

And when have you ever seen a Hollywood production that was scientifically sound? There are always errors, even in the current day of computer generated VIS-FX, and they created the perfect production in the 60s and 70s with matte paintings, models, and optical wire removal?

"The Apollo missions marked the first event where humans traveled through the Van Allen belts, which was one of several radiation hazards known by mission planners.[29] The astronauts had low exposure in the Van Allen belts due to the short period of time spent flying through them.[30] The command module's inner structure was an aluminum "sandwich" consisting of a welded aluminium inner skin, a thermally bonded honeycomb core, and a thin aluminium "face sheet". The steel honeycomb core and outer face sheets were thermally bonded to the inner skin.
In fact, the astronauts' overall exposure was dominated by solar particles once outside Earth's magnetic field. The total radiation received by the astronauts varied from mission to mission but was measured to be between 0.16 and 1.14 rads (1.6 and 11.4 mGy), much less than the standard of 5 rem (50 mSv) per year set by the United States Atomic Energy Commission for people who work with radioactivity." - From Wikipedia article on the Van Allen Belts

My problem with conspiracy folks is that they usually take one statement (or often a misstatement) and turn it into a grand unified theory of bunk.

The amount of people that would have known "the truth" if the moon landings were faxed is massive...it's gotta be north of 20,000 people, but let's say it was 200 people. Out of 200 people, one of them wouldn't have talked by now? Has anyone who had a major role within NASA during the Space Race ever came out and said "sorry guys, you're right, you got us, Buzz Aldrin was eating a cheeseburger in the green room when you though he was descending the lander stairs"?

"sorry guys, you're right, you got us, Buzz Aldrin was eating a cheeseburger in the green room when you though he was descending the lander stairs"

Please God in heaven if there is ever a statement from the government on this matter, let this be a part of it.
