I'm building a new table, that incorporates the Fat Tire (bicycling) theme. I've also noted that some people like nice lighting over their poker/game tables, without the entire room being thrust into bright light. I know some people have drop down lighting (such as with pool tables) over the poker table.

I'm wondering what people think about the sign I'm looking to buy, and possible hanging it light down (directly over the poker table)? It would also happen to somewhat mirror the image on the middle of the felt design. It would provide some nice soft lighting over the table, while also keeping with the table's theme.

I wouldn't want it super low (like some pool table lights). Probably 18" off the ceiling. And I've included some pics to get you thinking about my concept.

Too cheesy?

I like these round lights, as the new Fat Tire sign above would have similar profile to these, with a black top.

Or I might just have to find somewhere to wall-hang it... But wall space is at a premium these days.... Something else might have to come down first. Which neon would YOU take down? My awesome Blue Moon sign, my amazing Fat Tire sign, or my Franziskaner (one of the kind) neon sign (my fav beer).

^^^I agree.

But I would definitely find some wall space for it and not hang it down from the ceiling.

Depending on size, maybe under the speaker? Or stack your chip displays 2 over 2 to gain space over there?

Curious...where are the power cords for your existing neons? I don't see them hanging down.

Had a friend, fellow poker player, electrician, assist with running outlets behind the signs. Dangling wires suck.

The photo is a bit old too, as I a lady have the chip display cases double stacked. Now there's 16 of them. ;)

I will probably work to find some wall space... Maybe under the speaker, or maybe against the tile of the bar backsplash?

If it were large enough to match the size of the table logo, and if it provided the correct amount of light, and if you could safely hide the wiring... then I would vote to use it as an overhead light.

Nice.
Yeah you're right about the wires. I have 5 signs myself and that has always bugged me, but I can sort of live with it in my space as its an unfinished/partially finished basement.

Oh yeah, I forgot that you added a bunch more display cases. Scrap that idea lol.

The sign is 16" across It was a novel idea to use it as lighting.overhead. But I think I'll squeeze it on the wall somewhere and utilize one of the existing sign outlets

I wouldn't use it as an overhead light... because it won't be seen.

If it's bright enough as an overhead, it will be hard to look at the pattern. Overhead lights, like pool table lights, are designed to be decorative from the sides, not from the part emitting the light - that part is shielded from the normal playing positions, to avoid glare.

It's a great piece, and I'd want it to be seen, not lost over a table.

I think it would be best on the wall. You wont get allot of light from that one on your table, as for getting the BIKE symbol (like the BAT symbol) on the table, I dont think you would get a good one.

Most of my players want to see there cards better and an over head light is not necessarily going to do that for me, I just got done with a lit rail table build and I know that helps with card visibility.

I think making a chandelier out of a bike frame would be cool.

Super nice light BTW

Once you have about 50 signs you won't care about cords anymore ;) It would be cool to cut it into the center of your table below your cloth and foam if it would shine through. Might not be bright enough but you could always put something brighter behind the aluminum cut out.

I snagged it! Funny thing, the guy who is CNCing the lumber for my new Fat Tire Poker table, has his shop 10 minutes away from the person who was selling this sign. My CNC guy offered to pick it up for me (after I negotiated the deal with the seller). Saved me 90 minute drive there and a 90 minute drive back!

I hope the lumber is half as good as this guy's customer service!

For the record, these signs sell for close to $300, and I got it for $100 (in like new condition). Apparently, the seller is a vintage decor/furnishings shop, and I don't think they really knew the complete value of the sign. It wasn't highway robbery (like I'd prefer), but I'm happy with the price!

No matter what, this will fit in your room. Whether you put it above your table or on your wall, you won't be disappointed.

Nice score on both the sign and the pickup. Agree that this goes better on the wall somewhere than hanging down where the image would be less visible in general.

Works much better as a wall sign than overhead light. I agree with Junior, here's a prototype of what you need to buy/build overhead to illuminate your table:
